Infant Drowning Prevention
...I got a link to this via e-mail today. This is kind of messed up.
http://www.childdrowningprevention.com/index.html (Safe for work, unless work does not like to see infants swimming and saving their own lives with a creepy soundtrack.) Who does this? Last edited by Scholes : 09-19-2007 at 12:04 AM. |

As the father of a 16 month old...CLOSE THE FRIGGIN' DOOR!!!!!!! Honestly...I understand the reasoning but prevent the situation by avoiding it altogether.
Now, with that in mind, over the summer I was on holidays visiting the folks and while I was in the backyard BBQ'ing I heard a bunch of sirens around the neighbourhood. Ordinarily it isn't a big deal because my folks live a couple blocks away from a fire station (don't mind the noise at all especially since they saved my dad's life a couple of years ago due to their quick response time!!) but the sirens didn't go away. Well, turns out the sirens were heading to a neighbour of my folks' place (oddly enough, it was the brother of a guy who used to babysit my brother and I when we were kids...this guy bought the house next to his parent's place a la Raymond Barone!) because, as we found out later, their infant fell into their pool and drowned. Turns out the father fell asleep in a lounge chair out in the backyard and the baby crawled into the pool. Very sad. I guess something like this ISR stuff could've prevented this. But, I do think they are other alternatives, too...see above. EDIT: Don't get me wrong...no problems with having infants getting accustomed to being in the water...my wife had our daughter in "swimming lessons" at 6 months but it is all about getting the kids comfortable in the water, socializing with other kids, and having fun.
