September 17, 2007 - With Zachary Quinto and Anton Yelchin officially part of the new crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise (as Mr. Spock and Ensign Chekov, respectively), the latest confirmed addition to the cast of J.J. Abrams' big-screen Star Trek reboot is actress Zoe Saldana.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Saldana is in final negotiations to play Uhura, who is the chief communications officer on the USS Enterprise." Saldana was first rumored for the part in August.

The 29 year-old actress, whose credits include Haven, the forthcoming Vantage Point and James Cameron's Avatar, succeeds Nichelle Nichols in the role.

Star Trek begins filming in November for a Christmas 2008 release. Abrams will also produce from a screenplay by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.
