ootp 6.5 or ootp 2007?
I'm gonna buy one tonite, I was wondering whats the popular consensus on the better sim? I could really care less for baseball feeder leagues from china, but i am curious if 2007 is a far leap over 6.5
Thanks |

2007 is much better interface wise, and having multiple leagues running simultaneously also tips the scales

Everybody complains about how complicated ootp07 is, but if you strip it down, uncheck all the goofy stuff that doesn't really work, and just run a single league, I think it's a strong improvement over 6.5

What I need is a total league set-up tutorial. Maybe I'll look for one this weekend. I have not been able to figure out where the hell to start with 07.

6.5 has a lot better interface than ootp07 in my opinion.

I bought 2007 and just couldn't get into it. On the other hand, I've played 6.5 pretty much non-stop since it came out.

Even with 2007 stripped down, it still is too messy and convoluted. I would think it would be much better to start with a basic interface and have users add screens, menus, tools and column fields as they like. For historical simmers, it feels like a modern-day sabermetrician went back in time. One of the challenges and joys in playing historical is the limited information that they had to work with. You can say that v2007 doesn't know the word 'limited' and purposely gives you the world and make you find your little corner.

I think 6.5 is better for people who like things simple, who don't like options, customization and play text sims for as little eye candy as possible.
Last year's version was unplayable. But 2007 was a huge step forward. But that said, I can see how it can just be too much for someone who skipped last year and is used an older version of OOTP. Is it a far leap from 2007? Yes, a ton. You can do the same things you did in 6.5 in 2007, plus get all of the benefits of it working fast and better than that old version ever did. And you can keep foreigners out, never add a league in Micronesia. You can even turn off FaceGen - which I do most of the time - if you're interested in an extremely crash-free experience. |

Well, i see this is not going to reach a consensus.
![]() So simming seasons is a whole lot faster on 2007? are there are any glaring stat goof-ups? |

no glaring stat goofups (in either edition, actually) some key advantages of v2007, IMHO: 1. *Many* stat-keeping improvements, like (A) actually keeping track of in-season splits when a player gets traded from 1 team to another. (When viewing player history in OOTP6.5 it would only display season totals and not break down by team). and (B) all historical stats are saved (kind-of like a baseball-reference.com for your league, which v6.5 doesn't have) 2. player progression is more realistic in v2007 3. fielding engine (i.e. inability of players to successfully play more difficult positions) more realistic: you really feel the difference in v2007 between stiff 1B and very athletic guys who can play SS or any infield position.

Basically, you're not going to hurt any by going to OOTP07. I mean, all of the complaints people here have are based solely on their own preference for a game that looks more textsimmy and less 'pretty'. 07 has everything 6.5 PLUS more. And it's customizable enough that you can shed in a few clicks what you DON'T want featurewise and go ahead and play like you would in 6.5, plus all of the enhancements, bonuses and editions that are listed above.
I would argue reports are far more thorough and detailed in 07 too. |

I would get Puresim or BM 08.
ootp 2007 has some great things, but put me in the camp that hates the interface. |

Baseball Mogul 08 is like the toy in the bottom of the cracker jack box.

I have not tried 2007. I played 50 years of 6.5, a new 12-team fictional league over the summer. Enjoyed the hell out of it. Finally figured out that with a small league I got to know a lot more about all the players and the franchises and just followed the whole thing better. Tweaked the results just the way I wanted and after ten years was getting just the results I wanted, with enough variation to make things interesting. 6.5 is a wonderful game.
