The Tournament of Rick: Rnd 1 - PITINO vs MAJERUS

From the Sports II Bracket, it's the first round matchup of the college basketball coaches!

The Matchup:

Rick Pitino

Rick Pitino (born September 18, 1952) is the head basketball coach at the University of Louisville. He has also served as head coach at Providence College and the University of Kentucky, leading that program to the NCAA championship in 1996. Pitino holds the distinction of being the only men's coach in NCAA history to lead three different schools (Providence, Kentucky, and Louisville) to the Final Four. As a collegiate head coach, Pitino has compiled a 494-182 record, for a .731 winning percentage that is ranked 12th among active coaches and 30th all-time among all collegiate basketball coaches entering the 2008 season. Pitino's 0.744 winning percentage in 43 NCAA Tournament games is 3rd best among active coaches. Won the NCAA Tournament in 1996 with Kentucky. He has coached on the professional level for the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics with mixed success. He has earned respect as both a coach and motivator.

vs

Rick Majerus

Rick Majerus (born February 17, 1948 in Sheboygan, Wisconsin) is the men's basketball head coach at Saint Louis University. He has coached at Marquette University from 1983 to 1986, Ball State University from 1987 to 1989, and University of Utah from 1989-2004. He led Utah to the Final Four in 1998, eventually losing to Kentucky in the National Championship Game. In 2004, Majerus was hired as coach of the University of Southern California basketball team. However, just days after being hired, he changed his mind. He worked as a commentator for ESPN from 2004-2007. On April 27, 2007, Majerus accepted the head coaching position at Saint Louis University. His lifetime record entering the 2008 season is 422-147, a .739 winning percentage. Majerus is something of a fan favorite and cult figure around college basketball, known for his rotund figure and his quirky, jovial personality. He has had a history of heart trouble which led to his resignation from Utah.
