Just ordered a new Dell Inspiron desktop...
Here are the specs:
64 X2 Dual-Core 6000+ 3GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz - 4 DIMMs 20 inch SP2008WFP Widescreen Digital Flat Panel w/ Webcam 256MB NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT-DDR3 500GB Serial ATA 3Gb/s Hard Drive (7200RPM) w/DataBurst Cache Not too bad although I'll have to upgrade that video card in a year or so. Anyway my question is for you guys that have ordered from Dell before. My confirmation email said the PC should ship on November 9th. Is that realistic? Do they occasionally ship before the projected ship date? It says that it wont be here until around the 14-16th including shipping time. I was hoping to get it a little sooner. Any chance? I also got a pretty good deal on this thing. The monitor is supposedly badass. A 2ms response rate and 2000:1 contrast level. I got everything with tax for $1130. Right now Dell has a deal on some Inspiron's. You get $450 off instantly. I also am getting a $200 Dell Gift Card in the mail. I am excited about the computer but also a little worried. The last 3 new computers I have had, I have built. Hopefully this Dell works as well as those have. |

I've owned 4 DeLLs in my life and they've all run far longer than the 2 I built myself and the old IBM I had way back in the day.
That said, I got a Lenovo *IBM thinkpad* from work and I have to say I'm loving this thing. Its very stable and very robust for a laptop. Or at least for a generic business laptop. If I ever have to give this one back I'll consider very strongly buying one of these. |

IBM laptop's are so hard to work on though. Dell's are a piece of cake.
I have 2 Dell desktop pc's and couldn't be happier. They must be selling the crap out of their monitors as we have a 4-6 week backlog on getting them in at work. |

Yeah, I have a Dell laptop as well. It arrived on time, if I recall. It's much less problematic than my last one. There are some minor weaknesses with my Inspiron, but I was already aware of them prior to ordering.
Removing all of the pre-installed software was annoying, though... |

My experience with Dells, for myself, family and friends is that the laptops arrive on about the time they tell you- but the desktops can arrive pretty quickly.

I alwyas order from Dell outlet - same computers but much cheaper. Although the $450 off makes that new system a much better deal.

It's simple if you just re-load the OS (do a clean install). I do that with every pc that comes pre-loaded with all that crap. |

Do the new machines come with the OS on CD's? I haven't purchased a computer in a couple of years now, but I don't remember seeing separate CD's for Windows XP. If not, then did you buy a separate copy of the OS? |

Speaking for Dell pc's, they come on a separate CD. |
