I saw Queen and Aerosmith at the Seattle Coliseum in 1979. Queen was the absolute worst live show I've ever seen.

Queen is possibly the worst band ever.
That's pretty much my litmus test for a music fan: If you actually like Queen, I can't possibly take your musical opinions seriously. |

And this is pretty much my litmus test for a music fan: If you base your opinion of someone's musical opinion on whether they like a particular band then I can't take your musical opinions seriously. Music is far too subjective for there to be a definitive best or worse or even entertaining and I know I sure enjoy a lot of stuff that wouldn't pass the "quality" test and I know it's not "quality" so it strikes me as sad that you'd consider all my other opinions invalid because I know and like something that you don't like. I can respect the subjective nature of music and will still listen to someone who likes something I don't because chances are they are going to like something else that I do like and I may never know it if I wrote them off. I'd miss out on too much stuff that way. Yes, Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, I mean you. ![]() May I suggest Ganges Delta Blues if you're curious. Well, not you because I like Queen but for anyone who is curious about how an indian guy would sound playing the blues you might want to check it out, it's off a collaboration with Ry Cooder "a meeting by the river" which won a grammy Now, I've actually downloaded some of Bhatt's more traditional music and can say there's at least some Indian music I can get into and trust me, using your criteria and my negative opinion of indian music this would never have happened and would have been my loss. I'm just saying. PS: Speaking of Cooder, "Chavez Ravine" is a great album I'll highly recommend, especially to our Angelinos and hispanics or those who just like hispanic music on the board. I didn't expect to like it when I downloaded it and it's one of my favorite albums to date and I'm not really a Cooder fan. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm off to listen to music off of the bands in the tournament that I don't know very well. I bet I'll like some of it too. ![]()

Yeah I guess....If stellar vocals, great harmonies and tight muscianship are not your things. Their songs may not have had great social/political value, but there are few groups as talented in my unqualified opinion. |

I'd actually go see Queen but I voted for the Pixies because I knew it'd be a landslide and they're a great band and didn't deserve that draw ....

PS - Am I the only one presuming this is the Queen with Mercury and not without?
(without seems a bit like Marillion without Fish imho) |

Pixies are hands down one of the best shows I have ever been to and are also one of my top 5 bands. Of course comparing Pixies and Queen is apples and oranges. I don't even think of them as the same genre, really.
Anyway - Pixies are probably the only decent thing to come out of Boston in the past 25 years ![]()

The Pixies deserve so much better. But I'd be quite shocked if this whole poll business didn't go pretty much by the numbers all the way to the final. This whole thing should be pretty predictable.

Philosophical tangent, but most contemporary aesthetic theory insists that music is not subjective at all, it is in fact the one objective art form there is. What is subjective is how a person relates to the experience of music. In other words, everybody experiences exactly the same thing when Stairway to Heaven comes on the radio. Some people's egos are thrilled by this experience, other people's egos are disturbed by the experience. That's where the difference lies. So when you say "Aerosmith sux" what you really mean is that "When I listen to Aerosmith, I don't like who I am." |

I own Queen's Greatest Hits, but I also own every Pixies cd they released. Completely different styles of music, but I'd have to go with seeing the Pixies live. I'm still pissed I missed out on their reunion tour a couple of years ago.
BTW, who'd the Replacements draw as their opponent? Led Zeppelin?

I saw the Pixies live twice, once opening for Jane's Addiction and once opening for U2. They were awful both times. Too bad - they were a pretty good band, but I think band politics were bringing their live performances down.

The only way I would choose Queen is if they guarenteed the concert would be a two hour extended version of the Flash Gordon theme song.

The Pixies weren't big into doing videos. If you don't know them at all, I suggest the album Doolittle as a starter. Bossa Nova is also good. Here's them playing my favorite song live: hxxp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zy5ngAiLKvc
Wow, I just spent 20 minutes on Youtube watching the Pixies live. They are really one of the great bands. |
