I just got this PS2 game in my mailbox called "Swashbucklers: Blue vs Grey."

It's apparently a pirate RPG, set during the Civil War, and has ship-to-ship combat.

Is there something you're not telling us about what you do for a living?

I saw that. There's a PC version also, and I was pretty intrigued by the setting as that's almost completely untouched.

Not sounding good from the reports I've seen though.

Another thing,

since Bucc has been pinged anyway I was curious if you'd played Gothic 3? I passed on it originally because I didn't think my PC could handle it, and now I've got a new PC that should but I remember hearing pretty bad things. Did it get patched up to playable? Or did you pass on this one?

No, there was no way I could have passed that up. There is a thread here from around January, I believe, that went into details about it. From Christmas to about April, we played it through twice, taking about 4-5 weeks each.

In a nutshell, it's a different game, not mention hefty requirements. It still lags in a lot of places but that was a design choice vs not having to load levels. I played it maxed out on my custom built PC and actually had it run better than the previous versions at times. As far as gameplay, I liked it even though the story wasn't there compared to the previous versions. Again, this was a design decision since it is far more open-ended compared to the more linear previous versions. There were a number of bugs but I really didn't notice too many of them but I just found out last month that PB no longer is affiliated with Gothic and thus, could not put out an update. There are a number of user-created fixes but I have no experience with those. I recommend it highly (it's a huge, huge gorgeous world full of everything), as long as you think of it as a different game, esp. the way combat is handled. Thanks for asking.

Gee, what are the odds that this would be the second reference to this game I saw/heard today? Earlier today I was listening to the CAGCast and the Gamers With Jobs podcast and on one of those 2 shows, somebody mentioned picking up this game. I think it was the CAGCast, and Wombat picked it up.

How freaking random.
