Murder by Death (music)
So my brother loans me this CD entitled "In Bocca Al Lupo" by Murder by Death. Murder by Death? Great, I am in for some terrible heavy metal and lots of screaming, I figured.
On the contrary, it is a band that named themselves after the film, and they are folk rolk, and the vocalist sounds a lot like Johnny Cash! What a great surprise. I'm giving them their own thread because using the forum search just brings up a bunch of articles FOFCers have posted about murders. Heh! Anyways, I would recommend "Brother" and "Shiola" to start. If you want a quick listen to Shiola, just check out my myspace, where it will start playing. |

Listened to the Shiola song, he sounds a little bit too much like Johnny Cash, but the song was quite good. I'm downloading the rest of the album to give it a try, hopefully the other songs are good but not quite so similar to Cash.

Saw them in 2003 .. They just jammed without any vocals for some reason. Considering the lineup they were on it was just weird.

I'd never heard of the band, but I love the movie.
"Shh shh shh! Cow talk again!" "Where is the soup?" "In your dish, sir." "There is nothing in my dish but my dish!" "Where's my Dicky?" "Who would kill a man, take the body, but leave the clothes behind, then return to the scene of the murder, take the clothes, and bring the body back?" "Perhaps some kind of deranged dry cleaner?"

I must confess Shiola seems to sound the most similar to the Man in Black... tell me what you think of the rest. |

I'm pretty partial to the Who Will Survive and What Will Be Left of Them LP. His voice becomes a bit too much to bear for me by In Bocca Al Lupo. The Like The Exorcist, But More Breakdancing LP is nice too.

Last.fm is pretty cool. When you sign up you download a little program that runs in your task bar that tracks what songs you play. You can then go on your profile and see what songs you play the most, what artists you play the most, etc. It shows you other people with similar musical tastes and you can look at their profiles and possibly find new music, songs, etc.
Here's my profile. I don't think I listen to the same music as you, but you can see what it does. http://www.last.fm/user/homan9118/ |

If I didn't delete posts, I'd have as many as you. But the sentiment was basically true. I'm listening to those LPs I mentioned and what's great about MbyD is that they're mellow and yet, lush sounding. It might be a little too busy on some tracks, but...I just like how nicely it flows. Sounds like nothing else. Pretty much all of the tracks on "Who Will Survive..." fit that description in my mind.Umm..last.fm basically has an app that you download and it will track what sons you play in winamp, windows media player or iTunes. It basically "scrobbles" your music taste. It's basically a social music site. You can look at other people's profiles, folks who like stuff like you do or folks who are way different, as well as RL friends and stuff. It's neat for those of us who have eclectic tastes because you can almost always find someone on that site who likes obscure bands that "no one" has ever heard of. I only started using it to track stuff so that if I happened to forget a band -- and that was way more common back in the day -- I could go back and see what I was rocking out to six months ago. Or longer. There are facebook apps that can be plugged into your profile too, that display your last.fm profile.
