Annoying cell phone problem -- Need help

So I'm traveling right now for work, and for some reason tonight, my cell phone started suddenly ringing randomly every now and then and the number of the incoming call was my cell phone number. When I would answer, there obviously would be no one else on the other line. I would hang up and then suddenly get a call back again out of the blue. This would repeat like once a minute for 5-10 minutes then stop.. until another hour or 90 minutes later then suddenly the same thing.

The really odd part is my wife says that the same thing is happening to our home phone. She says my cell phone keeps calling it randomly but I'm not there when she answers it. Looking online at my home phone line records, sure enough it says my cell phone is calling for 1 minute each call. (Which could just be less than 1 min but that is the least time the call is measured for).

Calling AT&T Support, they are clueless on what to do and their only recommendation is to turn the phone off and go exchange it... Anyone have any clue what to do?. This is really annoying me!

You aren't using Grand Central at all right? And no call forwarding?

I've found a couple of Google results that related this oddity back to an extremely low battery and/or some sort of water damage. The problem was originally (and mostly) noted in very early models of cordless phones but reported anecdotally in 2003 with cell phones.

Only solution in either case appeared to be removing the battery until you can replace the phone (although I'd probably simply try a new battery first).

My battery wasnt too low and don't -think- I had any water damage. The funny thing was AT&T said others called in last night complaining of the same issue. I ended up just turning off the stupid phone until I woke up.. at 3:45am I just really needed sleep

The Call log on Grand Central doesn't show any calls to me from last night.. but I wonder if something on there might have blown up... I guess now that my phone is back on I'll just have to wait and see if it happens again today.

AT&T's only other solution for me was what Jon mentioned.. replacing my phone... which doesn't seem to be something I really want to do with a 4 month old phone.
