Dick Vitale has Throat Surgery

http://espn.go.com/dickvitale/071218lettertofans.html

It's kind of odd, I'm 99.9% certain that Dick Vitale is one of the people I've gone on record here ("in writing" as it were) as saying I'd love it if they lost their voice, but I have to say, it's going to be weird to watch Terps games on ESPN and NOT hear Dickie V talking about Duke (even if we're not playing Duke or any other Carolina school). Vitale's voice has always irritated me, I think it's something about the pitch, and I've never cared for any of his catchphrases. But that said, he's always seemed like a good person. He's not a personality that feels a need to be lewd or crass (like so many radio personalities these days), and he does seem to do a lot of good charity work with The V Foundation.

I've wondered if he stresses his voice to maintain his characteristic tone/pitch. I think that even if he doesn't, it's been obvious for awhile that something's been wrong, on his normal slot on Mike & Mike, he'd been doing a lot of throat clearing (which was a little disgusting to hear), and I guess it's probably good he's getting it treated.

Kinda crazy...
