Are you in the holiday spirit?

Poll coming up...

I'd say I'm not. Christmas is a week away and I couldn't care less. I'm even cranky this year, when in previous years I was happy for Christmas to come. I drag my ass out to buy gifts, but that's it.

Honestly I didn't know it was christmas season until I got text message telling me that I had a secret santa and was given the name of the person I must buy for.

yes, i blame the ridiculous gas prices. I was actually relieved to see it go down from $2.93 to $2.85

My wife and I realize its a possibility this is our last xmas without kids of our own ( and the expenses that go with them) so we splurged on our gifts this year so I am excited for our nieces and nephews to open them.

And in 10 years you will not give a crap because your wife always returns your Christmas and birthday presents you get her and it has taken a chunk of the fun out of it. Even when she says she wants something, and you get her that, she has a problem with it....

Maybe that's not everyone, and just someone I know.....

Cringer, that's why gift certificates are no fail. Yeah, they are cold, so fucking what...then she picks out what she wants!

I pick a bunch of movies of Amazon (she is a movie nut) and then get a surprise type gift certificate. This year is for a new(er) spa/salon type place near us she hasn't been to yet.

To answer the question...no not really, but I don't think I normally am, until maybe Christmas Eve. Daughter 3 and son 1 this year, so once they start opening gifts etc, I'll be a little more jolly I guess.

My vent will be...every year, my wife and her mother ask me what I want...and honestly, there is nothing I really want. My wife at least has accepted that, and will find one item that is something I'll use at least. Not her mother...I have more Steelers DVDs than I know what to do with...every year. I tell her just buy something extra for the kids instead, but it never happens. Bah Humbug!

It'll be my first Christmas in 29 years that I'm with no family whatsoever, so that's a little depressing (though I was able to take a vacataion over Thanksgiving, and have big new year's plans out of town. The tradeoff was working Christmas Eve).

So the idea this year is a "Jewish Christmas" with other displaced friends here - Chinese Food and a movie.

I hate the stress and pressure of buying gifts for everybody as I hate to buy stuff that people don't want or won't use nor am I a very perceptive guy when it comes to people talking about something in June that they would like and remembering the conversation in December. I also have to buy for family that I see maybe once a year and have no clue what they need or want as it is never the topic of conversation when we're talking on the phone every couple of weeks.

But, with our daughter now about a year and a half old, Christmas morning should be pretty funny as she'll be excited to tear open her gifts this time around.

Uhm, nope. Wouldn't work. I can hear the complaints about those already. Good try though.

Really though, it isn't a big problem. My wife is the type of person who will buy something, then decide she doesn't want it and return it even before opening. I was amazed to hear she finally opened the flat screen computer monitor we got a month ago. So when I buy her something for Christmas, she worries about the price more then anything else. I have accepted her being a pain in the ass and moved on.

Same here. We buy stuff throughout the year if we really want something. I don't really care. I have been saying I want a guitar for about 10 years and have never got one. I don't understand that one, she must not want me to become a rockstar....

Whoa, it's a good think she doesn't visit the board anymore!!!!

I've returned something right after walking out of the store! Heh, first time I've ever done that though I very, VERY rarely return anything.

I've got a stack of "use-it-or-lose-it" vacation left, so I am going to get a bunch of time off around Christmas -- meaning, I get to spend a lot of time with my wife and 1.5 year-old daughter. So I'm pretty excited about the holiday.

Oh, she has heard me say all this to her face. I was telling her I to buy her self something for Christmas just two days ago and said I wasn't getting her anything because it will just be returned because she doesn't like it.

She will get something though. I don't know what yet, but she will. And it will be returned unless I lose the receipt on purpose which is something I have done a few times.

I'm not a "bah humbug" type, I just don't have much reason to get into the spirit. I don't have kids (and never plan to), I have been single the last few years (and "mostly single" for a few years before that). I've gotten into the holiday spirit when I've been in a relationship, but I haven't when I'm not, and I haven't been in a relationship for some time.

Mine is honestly I can't come up with any thing I just must have. I don't buy all that much stuff throughout the year. I know I'm crazy, but I'd actually spend money on her and the kids than myself.

Absolutely!

I -love- the holidays. It's seriously my favorite season of the year and my favorite holiday, second-favorite being my birthday.

I adore going out and buying gifts for people. It's so much fun!

(and yes, I'm completely serious.)

I'm kinda "meh" about Christmas this year. My wife bought most of the presents, which means I never really got to do the whole holiday shopping thing, which I enjoy.

Frankly, I'm looking forward to the 15 minutes of pure mayhem when the kids are opening Christmas presents on Christmas morning, but that's about it.

This is similar to my story. And going home isn't fun, because my parents are divorced and most of my family that I like are dead or far away or preoccupied with other stuff and so, it never captures what I grew up with it being and as a result, I don't enjoy it much these days.

I doubt it'll be this way forever if I can help it, but..as my 20s wind down, that's pretty the story throughout. But it's okay, it doesn't bother me until someone complains that it's a problem that I'm not "festive." But I figure I'm good to people all year (or I try to be) and I do stuff for folks, too..I don't see any reason to single out this time of year to be overzealous about it.

But I get why others are/do and that's cool for them.
