NFL Week 16

Steelers/Rams on NFL network tonight.

Hopefully Gum Ball is sick again. In leiu of that, Bruce Arians' play calling will most likely make me vomit in my mouth again tonight. I expect the Rams to abuse the Steelers secondary tonight, and it to be a pretty convincing win for STL. Tomlin better have the guys motivated.

I am beginning to suspect that the Steelers are the only outdoor team that plays better indoors. How else do you explain losing at home in the snow to a Florida team (Jags)?

The Packers absolutely destroyed the Rams last week. But rest assured, the Steelers are not even close to being on the Packers level. I think the Steelers will lose this game and the Browns will win the AFC North. They deserve it. I'm just glad that this game is on national TV so that the whole nation can watch it.

Not sure what happened to the Steelers defense, but they haven't laid a hand on Bulger all night. If the Steelers can't get pressure, their pass defense stinks.

Too bad that didn't happen about 6 weeks ago. At least they could play lousy for a better draft pick. I hate when my teams squeeze into the playoffs and then lose in the first round. No high draft pick + no championship = RomaGoth.

While I love Willie, Najeh has been just as effective this season. For a couple of games I can live with him.

Good call. And you're right about the Browns, too. When is the last time they actually beat the Steelers? 2003? They do deserve the division title...

I have become your official reality check when it comes to the Packers. The Packers didn't really destroy the Rams. The final score was high, but the Rams moved the ball pretty well and the Packer offense was not at it's best. The first half was real close, too. Good win, but it wasn't domination.

I agree the Packers should win a game against the Steelers though, but it wouldn't be a blowout.

NFL Broadcast Ratings Rise as Patriots' Perfect Year Lures Fans

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?p...d=apvyu0xMt7m8

My two favorite parts of this article for some reason.....

Quote:
The NFL Network is selling ads for the Patriots' Dec. 29 season-finale against the New York Giants for more than $200,000 -- more than double the $85,000 it has received for ads during other games this season, MediaWeek reported. NFL Network spokesman Seth Palansky confirmed the figure.

Quote:
The Patriots' popularity encouraged CBS to choose Gillette Stadium in Foxborough as the location of its first restaurant. The 15,000-square-foot ``CBS Scene,'' a joint venture with the team, will open next season.

``It's not a business we've been in before,'' McManus said. ``But we thought it was a no-brainer to further associate ourselves with NFL football and the Patriots.''

Having watched most of the pats games this year, I don't really see alot that cries out to me as the Officials trying to help the Pats remain undefeated. I've seen some bad calls in their favor, but also seen some bad calls against them.

Its stuff like this however that really bugs me about the NFL. They might be completely innocent of trying to ensure that the Pats remain undefeated for this game, but don't you have to remove all apperance of conflict of interest? I think everything about the NFL network trying to make a profit off of the pats this way is wrong, and really wish the NFL wouldn't do that. It places too much doubt in everyone's minds about motivation of calls.

That kind of doubt has been around for the history of sports.

But it's so incredibly absurd to think that a league would mandate referees throw a game. When people suggest that as a serious possibility, it's just difficult to take anything else they say seriously.

There was an online poll once where more than 50% of people thought that the NBA referees were ordered by the league to help certain teams. Then a bunch of refs went to prison for tax evasion. Don't you think those refs would have utilized that info to help them out in that scenerio? Don't you think the Federal government would be interested? Look at that one gambling addict NBA ref from earlier this year - wouldn't he have talked by now?

You don't trust referees with your livliehood, or with your freedom. They WILL talk eventually, and you WILL go down. There's VERY little to gain to take that kind of risk.

Why haven't the NFL refs helped any other team go undefeated since 1972? Isn't 1 undefeated team every 35 years a resonable number to happen without outside inteference having to be involved?

Why is the media making a big deal about 16-0? 19-0 is the important metric, and really the only real way to compare the Pats to the 72 LOLphins. They have to win the title to finish this thing off. If my guys can't win this year, however, it would be nice to see jackasses like Mercury Morris shut up by the pats going unbeaten.

Yeah, I mean, duh, nobody's been 16-0, but Patriots looking good in regular season is not the same thing as Lolphins running the regular season table and winning the superbowl. Hell, the Pats dropping the last 2 games of the regular season, going 14-2 and then winning the bowl is a helluva lot more impressive than going 16-0 and losing in the first round of the playoffs.

Are there people who actually would consider a loss in the postseason an "undefeated season" I assume most people expect any undefeated season includes all the way to the superbowl. Going 18-1 without the championship makes you roughly one notch behind the 85 bears.

All I know is that an awful lot of the promos I've seen on NFL NEtwork, etc, seem to be talking about them clinching a "perfect season" next week vs the Giants.

True. And if the Pats go 16-0, and then lose in the playoffs, it's a huge catastrophe for them, and a HUGE news story. So 16-0 is a big deal no matter what. It either means they go 19-0, or that have that historic loss.

Obviously, winning a super bowl is more important and impressive than anything anyone does in the regular season, this is clearly a more dominant team than the '72 dolphins. I know you can only play who's in front of you, but if we're talking history, it's relevant that the dolphins only beat two teams in the regular season with a winning record (and both of those finished 8-6). It was litterally one the easiest schedules in the history of the NFL. The Pats 14 wins is FAR more impressive.

So you consider that proof that the fix is in? It couldn't just be that they're huge favorites in both games and they want to hype what seems likely?

You know what, I totally misinterpreted your comment, and that you responding to Alan T's post about a "perfect season" (I thougt we were still talking about referees fixing games, and took your post as implying that the NFL Network was assuming they'd win the last two games)

So, my bad.

You need to have some faith Cringer! All you do is build up the opponents whether its the horrific Lions, the hapless Rams, or the pathetic Bears! The Packers could win by 30 this Sunday and you'd still find faults in the performance! They could win the Superbowl and you'd still say that they could have done better! You don't get to 12-2 by accident! And why did everyone jump down my throat while leaving stevew alone? He thought it would be a Rams blowout! I was wrong! But I was still right about the final 3 in Survivor, so take that!

I have plenty of faith in the Packers. I also feel being a little realistic at times isn't bad though. Playing a certain way can get you a win against the Rams, while playing that same way would get you a loss to the Cowboys.

What a play early in the Eagles game, McNabb with a very good looking 45 yard run before the Saints punch it free from behind, but the ball goes sailing towards the endzone and is eventually knocked into the endzone by a Saints' player before Kevin Curtis falls on it in the endzone for a TD!

Ugh, why are we not getting the New Orleans - Philly game on TV in Minneapolis? Guess it's listening to that game on the radio rather than watching Chicago - Green Bay or KC - Detroit.

IMO the Giants will never win a Superbowl with Eli. He's way too prone to throwing up ducks under pressure, and throughout his whole life, with a father and a brother being who they are hasn't shown any inclination to change that.
