Antivirus Options

My subscription to McAfee is almost up, so I was wondering about other options outside of them or Norton. Not dissatisfied with either, just wanted to make sure there isn't another option I should consider. So, what do you recommend?

Avast and AVG are both free and compare very favorably to the anti-virus software you have to pay for.

Who is your internet service provider? They may have a free option for you.

If you have Road Runner you can get CA Internet Security Suite for free for as long as you have service.

I'm currently using Norton 360, notably because of its backup function. Norton has finally done away with most of their performance and integration issues. McAfee has been whining about Vista and was way behind on getting a Vista-compatible version, and Kaspersky gave me huge performance hits (despite that being the alleged key feature of it).

And yes, that paragraph above was very hard for me to write, given just how bad Norton was compatibility wise through the 90s and early 00s. You would not believe how many application crashes and the like it used to cause on stuff it had no business messing with...

Since I work for one of the companys mentioned in this thread, I'll try to stay unbiased

I don't like Kaspersky at all. I think if you just want a cheap, easy clean Antivirus, AVG is pretty good. It doesn't have alot of bells or whistles, but runs pretty well and stays updated ok.

I won't comment on the commercial versions as I work for one of those companys.

I've started using Avast regularly, and I've heard the same good things about AVG.

I use Panda Internet Security which I think very highly of. I got mine OEM from Buycheapsoftware.com for about 10-15 bucks per liscence. Panda has the firewall, content control and this version does have a backup function.

Same here. Switched from Norton and didn't look back. I will say I use Microsoft's Windows Defender for spyware/malware and am happy with that as well (as opposed to Spybot or Ad-Aware).

What all these people keep saying.

I have no idea why people pay big bucks for internet security when there is a lot of good freeware out there. I can name at least 2 good freeware programs for each of antivirus, firewall, and adware cleaner.
