Hamilton Clark
Anyone hear of these guys before? They called me to set up a meeting regarding employment and the only stuff I found on them online is that they are a VC company.

Looks like more of a boutique I-Bank than a Venture Capital firm from their website. Do you have a finance background?

No, quite honestly that is what has me completely puzzled. I have a sales background. Plus, I am supposed to meet with their VP of Marketing here in town, so I have absolutely no clue why they might want to talk to me. |

Could be a handful of things. They might be looking for someone to fill a role in one of their portfolio companies that fits your skillset. (Probably the most likely, it looks like they're heavy into energy and some tech, are those industries in your background?) There could also be something in your resume that makes them think you'd be good either for fundraising purposes or managing relationships with or for their M&A clients. In both cases there is a lot of following up, circling back, and coordination of many balls in the air that someone with a sales background might have some talent for. But that's a bit of a stretch. My guess would be they're working with or have an investment in a private company in your area, and they think you make sense as a candidate for the position. After a quick look around, the only other thing I can think is that it appears the firm is expanding its product offerings (just brought on a "Head of Research" from CSFB) and they might want someone with a sales background to help them pimp these new offerings. |

I just found out that this is Hamilton Clark INTERNATIONAL, which apparently has a big impact on what the search engines bring up... Just a local recruiter apparently.
