Just so the Vikings fans here (are there any left?) don't get into an uproar, this would be about Chicago's Adrian Peterson.

Now you've done it. The Bears fans would have never known. Face their wrath.

It was awesome when we had 2 Ricky Williamii at one point. I almost got one of my friends to take some horrid fantasy trade involving the colts scrub one, since he didn't realize which one it was. Too bad he wasn't drunker. I'm sure people will try the same thing with these Petersons.

I'm of the opinion that the better player (or more highly touted) player should not require an initial. Thus, there should be Adrian Peterson and Adrian N. Peterson.

Same in baseball. Right now it seems like there is Chris Young (Padres pitcher) and Chris B. Young (D-Backs OF). I think they should be reversed and the Pads pitcher will become Chris R. Young and the OF will just be Chris Young, as I believe the latter has more potential.

They've got it right with the two Alex Gonzalez's. Alex S. Gonzalez sucks while Alex Gonzalez is decent.

In the latter two instances, where the players are of different ethnic background, it is also okay to refer to them, for example, as "white" Alex Gonzalez and "black" Alex Gonzalez to help differentiate.

Who assesses which player has more talent or potential? Do we start up a committee on this?

I agree that referring to people as the white Alex Gonzalez and the black Alex Gonzalez is acceptable though.

I think whichever player makes it to the pros or majors first should get to keep his name. Anyone who follows has to be called "Slappy" until the first one is out of the league. So the guy in Chicago should be Adrian Peterson, and the guy in Minnesota should be Slappy Peterson. In the case of two NFL players drafted in the same year, the player who's drafted first gets to keep his name. That means you'd have Alex Smith the quarterback and Slappy Smith the tight end.

Why hasn't anyone else thought of this?

"hey, yo, Alex Gonzalez!"

"who, me??"

"not you. Stinky Ass Alex Gonzalez!"

I just thought of something. The Panthers have a Steve Smith, and the Giants have a Steve Smith. If Tampa already has Slappy Smith and then the Giants get a Slappy Smith, then the guy for the Giants has to be called "Orville." So you'd have Steve Smith, Alex Smith, Slappy Smith, and Orville Smith.

No more confusion!

What if it happens again Pumpy? Is there a sequence of names that should be used?

Nicknames work I think. Stink Ass Alex.

So, Roy Williams plays Safety for the Cowboys, but Slappy Williams is the Lions #1 WR?

I really enjoy the Slappy/Orville solution! But we do need an ordered list to follow. I'd like to present the case for the third name to be "Red".

Pumpy's "Slappy" proposal is remarkably similar to one my friends and I have used for a while. Only we used "Snoopy." No joke.

I would have suggested "Buster," but they have that fucker on ESPN using that name already, so forget it.

He was probably the 7th child born in the family, and got stuck with Buster.

Buster is fairly solid. Bud, Buck, Buddy and Junior would also be suffice.

Personally though I would be a big fan of "White Shoes" as well.

Alternatively, you could have the first player get to keep their name while the new players nickname has to be derived from his original name (either first or last name).

Therefore,

Adrian Peterson becomes "Petey" Peterson.

Chris B. Young becomes "Crispy" Young.

Roy Williams is "Willy" Williams.

Personally, I think it would be pretty great if the next potential great RB is known forever as Petey Peterson.
