OT - No car
I have felt trapped for the past week. My car is...on its last leg. First, it was just an oil leak, then we found the radiator was cracked. Then some belt broke, then some pump had to be replaced....all in a span of a week.
Yesterday, I drove to the bank and back. It felt great to have my car back. This morning.....it won't start. *sigh* |

I know the feeling. I used to have an old Chevy truck. After I bought it I found out that if you took it on the highway it burned oil. Then I developed a hole in a radiator hose on a lond trip and managed to run the radiator dry. That led to a cracked head, which kept the gal out of commision for a couple of months. I got it back and then started having trouble with the transmission. It started making this terrible squealing noise, and then one day when it was time to go to work I couldn't get it out of park. It was a sad day...
Luckily for the my big sister had just gotten a new car and gave me her old one, so I wasn't without a vehicle for very long.

I haven't had a car in a year. Pathetic as it is, I can't drive an automatic and that's pretty much the only option here on The Continent. I also live in the heart of town, no place to park. That being said, I don't really need a car. Everything I want (including work and the train station) is, at the most, a 15 minute walk.
All that being said, I do miss driving. Nothing quite like driving around on a sunny, weekend afternoon, windows down, music on. Good times... Good times...

i bought a car and put new breaks on it, then while changing the oil i found out the water pump was shot so i replaced that, then a while later the tranny went out so all the money i put in before to get the breaks, oil, and water pump replaced all went down the tubes.

What you need is a new car. Have you thought about going to dealer? There are some deals now, especially on SUVs.

Manual is easy. Just make sure you're always driving downhill. |

I learned to drive a manual on a construction job. We had a boat launch that was on a steep slope and the first day out by myself, I went to turn around at the launch and killed the engine. By the time I got it in gear the back tires were in the water. I was almost sure I was going to have to walk out of there with my truck buried in the lake.

As convient as having a car is they are a pain in the ass. I would love to be able to exist witout one. I hate the fact that I owe more money than what the car is worth and when you add up the extra costs, maitnence, gas, and yes, insurance, it almost not worth it.

LOL Seriously, if I could afford a new car, I'd have one. I make $200 a week. I barely have my head above water as it is with student loans, credit cards, car insurance...No room at all for a $300 monthly payment for a new car. As for a used car...my girlfriend bought a used car 2 years ago, and it's had problems too. SO basically I would be paying money just to get a car that has the same, maybe not as severe, problems. What I need is a good paying job. Or move to the city where I don't need a car. ![]() |
