The College Years?
I know this is not the plays for this thread, but I was wondering what's your thought on this game? I was thinking about getting this game, and using it with FOF.
People who played this game, what is your take on it? Thanks for your info. |

I love the game, and still play it occasionally. It hasn't been updated in a while, though - Temple is still in the Big East, for example.

We use TCY in the Dynasty League and we have a Dynasty University weekly update in The Huddle and a seperate forum discussion topic to discuss the players.
We do use the player files for the rookie drafts as well. Go take a look at http://www.dfl.cc/ KC our commish does a great job with this added immersion factor. |

I bought TCY some time ago but can't remember the last time I fired it up. Don't even know if it's still installed on my PC. I enjoyed it back when I got it but it's very dated now, has too much micromanaging for my tastes, and I never liked the Sol-8 addition.
GDS' Bowl Bound College Football is the better of the two sims IMO.

My favorite game, but I don't think it is the best game ever. If you like recruiting and dont want to call your own plays, buy it.
Why doesn't FOF have an option where you have the same draft and doesn't change every time you load the tcy draft. I would like to think someone like jerry rice would have the same potential and pretty close combine numbers each time the draft is loaded. This would ruin MP fof but that is why it should be an option. |

Can you take the Draft class from "Bowl Bound College Football" and export it into FOF?

I've heard there are some issues with importing drafts from TCY into FOF. The overall talent level is too low.

The import function actually looks for and uses a piece of TCY. It works better when TCY is installed on your computer. I had disabled the import function when TCY isn't present at one point, but reinstated it in one of the patches because that didn't seem fair to everyone. The estimates it makes when TCY is not present may not be ideal. Last edited by Solecismic : 01-21-2008 at 04:49 AM. |

I'm not sure I understand it. You mean, the import function from TCY to FOF doesn't work as well, if TCY is not installed? How many people import TCY files without TCY installed on their computers?

Anyone who uses a created draft file, those are essentially TCY draft files. |

WOW this is a great piece of information, thanks Jim. Also I really hope TCY2 is around the corner, I can imagine it now - everything from FOF2k8 into the TCY setting.

So wait, if TCY is on the computer, the draft classes and talent levels are more normal?

Well, I downloaded TCY, and the exporting and importing of draft classes worked fine for me.

The problem isn't "it doesn't work". The problem is it doesn't work "well". SkyDog ran a test recently, and I'm fairly sure he had TCY on his computer, and the talent levels were still skewed. Can you verify, SkyDog? |

FOF 2007, importing a TCY draft with TCY installed on the computer, will give you a draft class distributed like FOF 2 created drafts. Ben says these have more talent overall than the draft classes FOF 2007 currently generates on its own.
FOF 2007, importing a TCY draft without TCY installed on the computer, will give you a draft class that isn't completely correct experience and age-wise. FOF relies on a piece of the TCY aging algorithm when importing that, in retrospect, I should have simply duplicated in FOF rather than just throwing a quick estimate in there. I'm not sure why TCY 2 isn't out there. It's not like it's not already designed and ready to go into heavy development. I've just preferred working on the pro game in recent years. I'm sure that will turn around some day. |

Hmm, does this mean he is about to work on TCY 2? Or does this mean he is currently working on more FOF. |

Wow, Jim must have been a little tipsy to be talking like this.
Anyways, let me be the first to respond. Please go with "revitalize" the FOF series. And do it with a coaching/coordinator/staff overhaul as I have outlined in a number of threads. Thank you. That is all. ![]() |

I think it's scary when a developer doesn't know why his own game is not available yet.

FWIW, I was never able to get this working. I was only able to test a handful of times though, largely due to the amount of time it takes to both sim through a season, and to generate the reports required to run the utility.

Its a solid college football sim, but IMHO suffers from too much micro-management (theres a utility which mitigates this somewhat, but some features haven't been updated to the most recent version) and some flawed abstractions (girlfriends, etc). Haven't played in a while but I keep it on the harddrive. |
