Contract demands

We have a thread going over in the vNFL regarding contract demands. Someones QB, 74/74 and very successful wants $120 million over 6 years. This is WAY higher than any other player in the league makes - like pretty much double. Another QB wants $11 million over 4 years, he is a starter, but rated around 30. My QB I just traded for want $61 million over 4 years. He has been solid, but not in the 74/74 guys league. Still it seems a heck of a lot considering his performance.

So what effects their demands, and to what extent?

So far I have ratings, being a starter and performance in that order. Thoughts?

I think loyalty, Wants winner (and maybe the agent's stubbornness) have to be factored in as well.

But what you said is what I tended to think but I'm having second thoughts. My NAFL quarterback, Alan, took a 4/5 point ability hit in training camp but that made no difference to his salary demands. Of course 4/5 isn't a great deal but I would still have expected it to impact his demands to some extent. He's looking for $64m over 4. Meanwhile a quarterback with (according to my scout) comparable ability and who is also a starter (Sammie Holmes) signed a deal for $52m over 6. And it's not as though it's because a lot of the money is guaranteed, as he only gets $2.4m/year ($15m total) compared to my guy (who wants over $5m/year ($20m total)). They both have comparable loyalty and wants winner (Alan's is a bit low ironically), while Holmes has a more stubborn agent.

The only difference between them (apart from Alan's masked current ability - I'm still not sure if a player and his agent know their "real" potential and ability) is their performance. While Holmes was coming off of a great year, Alan has the best year by any quarterback in league history and only injury prevented him from winning the Bowl MVP award to go along with every other award he won. Goddammit! Actually there's also age (Alan is a couple of years younger) and possibly draft position (Alan was drafted 3rd overall while Holmes was drafted 20th overall), that could conceivably influence the demands. I presume Holmes was asking for more as well. However it's hard to see past Alan wanting a significantly bigger pot of cash because of the two quarterbacks respective performances.

So maybe I should get Alan to play crap the year before I have to reneg him. Although, of course, we know that is impossible.

I wonder if awards and Super Bowl appearances might have something to say here.

Your Al An (NAFL) was PoY and All League 1st quarterback on a Super Bowl team.

Hammers vNFL Carson Palmer is back-to-back Super Bowl winner and has won all awards possible the last two seasons.

Well yes, Awards means that the performance has been great, suggesting that Performance might play a bigger part in the equation than I thought. It would be interesting if there was a case of relatively low rated quarterback getting OPOTY and comparing his demands to a high rated quarterback who has a relatively poor year.

As an example, my franchise QB wanted the following to reneg during the 2014 season, after a very strong 2013.

B: $23.64M
1: $1.81M (13.15 cap cost)
2: $11.3M (17.21)
3: $13.49 (19.30)
4: $15.53 (21.44)

Total: 4yrs, $65.8M (avg $16.4M per year)

I let him play out the last year of his contract in 2014. It turned out he had a couple of minor injuries. He put up a solid season, but only played 10 games:

So I franchised him at the start of 2015, and he signed for:

B: $15M
1: $1.5M (4.5M cap cost)
2: $1.5M (4.5)
3: $4.5M (7.5)
4: $4.5M (7.5)
5: $9.0M (12)
TOTAL: 5yrs, $36M (avg. $7.2M per year)

He had a solid year in 2015 and played all 16 games. Guess what he wants now?

It's based *much* more heavily on performance than ratings. His ratings didn't change during this up and down time.

But in general I think ratings seem to have the edge when it comes to demands. I would expect the all everything 30 rated QB to ask for less than an under performing 95/95 guy.

Alan is cheap Narcizo, stop moaning The 70/70 guy in the vNFL has done nothing to speak of wants similar money. Also consider its the 4th season of the league. I wouldn't be surprised to see Alan wanting $20 million on average shortly.
