I read that. They're probably allowing it because hockey owners, unlike baseball owners, are telling the truth when they say they're losing money!

Its hard to feel badly for hockey and basketball owenership though. Look at the bare basics. you have X number of players, they want to be paid just like the NFL and MLB players.
NFL and MLB stadiums have capacities from 40-80k per game (yes baseball doesn't average that high, but they have the capacity) basketball and Hockey arenas have a capacity of 15-30K there is simply no way they can make as much as the two bigger sports, but yet they keep agreeing to pay the players on the same (or in the case of basketball) insanely higher levels. I have no sympathy. In the end its that fan reading the books who's still getting screwed, wether they are telling the truth or not. The truth is that ownership is pathetic in Professional sports. |
