Mini rant
Bloody man marking.
When you have a fast CB set to man-mark a fast ST, and a big CB to mark a big CF, when the AI swaps the two forwards around, why do the CB's forget who they are supposed to mark, and you end up with the fast guy marking the big fellow, and vice versa, causing the fast guy to outsprint my big CB and score a goal to get them back to 2-1... And yet when there's only one CF, you tell one of your CBs to mark him, the other to zone, why, when the AI makes a sub, put's in a new CF and the old guy goes to DM, does the CB this time remember who he's been told to mark and fucking start running upfield when the opposition starts attacking, leaving the new CF unmarked to score the equalising goal with two minutes left... One way or the other FFS - remember/don't. Don't make me guess. Bastards. Rant over.

Maybe the other teams forwards are twins.

It's been like it for years - I just needed to let off steam: it's never good to see your CB charging upfield past the ball to mark a DM!

I think the weakest part of the UI is individual player tactics. I wish I could just individually assign each of my players ways that I want them to play so I could substitute or gameplan without having to tweak every damn thing for that game.

I guess that makes me feel better about rarely setting individual player tactics. ![]()

I am getting absolutely hammered w/ marking currently. Nothing seems to be working, and I have good defenders. They are constantly out of position, roaming way too far upfield, even with forward runs set all the way down and in an ultra-defensive posture.

Are you man marking specific players? I've not had too many problems with defenders being out of position, but I usually mark zones.

Do you have the players creative freedom set to very low? I stick my CD on very little freedom so they concentrate on their position and not vanishing on a mad dash. Decisions is an important rating for that too. Plus what do you have their closing down set to? If you have it set too high they'll vanish out of position to close down the ball and leave a huge gap behind them, again I think it's tied to Decisions. I have a defender who is great but with a low decision rating and he seems to regularly vanish off chasing the ball leaving a hole in defense. I only ever use man marking when my opponent has had a player sent off and have gone to only one up front, but low closing down and freedom works ok with zone. As with Critch, I rarely if ever man mark, unless the opposition is only playing with one forward. I will say that I probably need to re-check my creative freedom, I guess I rarely think about that for defenders. Thanks!
