Is anyone in London tonight and interested in watching Eddie Izzard live?
Live as in 'performing a gig', not 'my window looks into his'.
I have a ticket for myself and one other. One other hurt her ankle and can't walk. She's too heavy to carry so she can't go. The gig is near Leicester Square and starts at 11.15pm so will finish after midnight. Ticket will be either cheap or free - haven't heard final decision on that (although, if it is 'cheap' and nobody takes it - it becomes free!). Last edited by Yossarian : 02-07-2008 at 03:27 AM. I think I'm more interested in watching Eddie Izzard die so I think I'll pass.

Oh, she can't go because she's heavy. Aren't you just the dashing gentleman?!

Off the top of my head, I don't think I even know a single song that Izzard sings. From the various photos of him and album covers I've seen over the years I think that's a good thing however.

The venue was very small for an Eddie Izzard gig - by my estimate from the seating plan, around 350 capacity.
My seats were in the third row from the front - B12 and B13. It was a great gig - I was a little worried, because the title was "Work in Progress" and the time (11.15pm->1am) was so late, that he would be testing out new material that largely wouldn't work but if he was, I didn't notice. The usual kind of Eddie ground was covered - I won't mention anything because even though it seemed quite polished, the title does imply that he may follow up with a proper tour later (also there were only four shows in this run - announced this week and all played this week). I'm just sorry that the other ticket was wasted. I only found out on the day of the show that my friend wasn't going and I couldn't find anyone who could make it. As with some of the posters above, I'm a huge Izzard fan and I really miss his semi-regular touring from the late 90's (before he moved to LA). Och well, next time fof-ers... |

You've got to watch with Eddie Izzard shows. If he's doing his scripted stuff it will be great, if he's trying to do an ego-stroking "improv" tour it will be less fun than jamming red hot needles through your winkie.
I made the mistake of going to one of his improv shows once, only time I've ever been at a comedy show where the crowd started booing. |

He did a tour in the US called Lust for Glorious which was his first big time stateside.
That tour wasn't worldwide, so in the UK, fans bought the DVD - it was good, sold well etc... So, a year or so after the DVD went on sale, he announces a UK tour called Circle. Well, to cut a long/boring story short - it turned out that 'Circle' was the 'Lust for Glorious' set - but nobody told the fans that. Before the Glasgow gig, myself and friends who were going watched all the previous Eddie videos to get in the mood - including Lust for Glorious, meaning that when the actual gig started, everyone knew the punchlines - fans were shouting out the lines etc.. was a right disaster. There was quite a bit of bad press about the whole shebang and shortly after, Eddie got into 'acting' (sort of) and buggered off to LA. I think he was burned by the whole thing. |
