Tough call...

RB Korey Bechtel 401-1964 yds rush (4.90 ypc), 10 TD, 75-574 yds catch (7.65 ypc, 259 yac), 6 TD, 2 drp, 4 fumb ( 377.834 )
QB Levon Schultz 335-514 (65%) 4089 yds pass (7.96 ypa), 41 TD, 6 INT, 56-168 yds rush (3.00 ypc), 2 TD, 7 fumb ( 368.003 )
FL Nolan Crane 129-2247 yds catch (17.42 ypc, 571 yac), 17 TD, 4 drp ( 358.91 )

Extender calls it a very close race for Offensive Player Of The Year, with the slight edge to the dual-threat RB. In this, the 45th season of my SP league, all three have top 5 all-time numbers in at least one category. Who gets the nod in your opinion?

In real life and my personal opinion mixed together -- I think the fan favorite would go to FL Nolan Crane for a monster year. But the NFL luddites would vote for QB Levon Shultz. RB Korey Bechtel gets scrutinized to death by his lack of making it to 2000 yards rushing and only having 10 TD's. His backfield yardage and scores are solid but until All-Purpose yards becomes a "sexy" stat...he's left out in the cold.

MY vote = FL Nolan Crane
NFL Vote = QB Levon Shultz

I've got to go with Bechtel for carrying such a heavy load at a 4.90 ypc clip. Plus, he led Crane by 300ish yards and only had one less TD.

Oh...

What's rather remarkable here is that there were two other guys who would hae been in the mix in most seasons...

RB Leland Burgess 381-1734 yds rush (4.55 ypc), 14 TD, 62-405 yds catch (6.53 ypc, 145 yac), 5 TD, 1 drp, 7 fumb ( 331.834 )
FL Sherman Alton 107-1946 yds catch (18.19 ypc, 550 yac), 17 TD, 4 drp ( 315.34 )

Double dola:

I probably should have posted this, but the other thing that dings Crane for me is his yards per target. It was good, but only fourth in the league. Bechtel led all RBs in ypc, despite leading the league in carries.

If this was the NFL, Crane smashed the receiving record by 400 yards. None of the other guys really broke any records.

Shulz and Bechtel have had great years, but what they've done has been done before.

Tomlinson in 2006 is more impressive than Bechtel, and Brady 2007 and Manning 2004, are just as impressive as Shulz. In the NFL, shulz probably wins it (like Brady did this year, when Moss should have...Brady didn't get leagues better this year, he got Moss)

That's one of the dumber arguments I've seen. If the case is going to made by how they stand up in their position group, they should be compared to FOF records in that universe, not to NFL records. For example, the league QB rating in the IHOF right now is over 90, so a QB with a 90 QB rating is a mediocre QB.

The NFL receiving yards record is brokenly relatively routinely in FOF. In this league's case, we've had 14 instances of 1,850 yards or better in 45 seasons, and of course none of those came in the first decade. I'm sure 1,850 will continue to get surpassed every 2 or 3 years from here on out in the league. Crane had a great season, but he did nothing that hasn't been done before in this league's 45 seasons.

Here's how they stack up in a true apples-to-apples comparison.

Bechtel: 5th-best rushing yardage season. 3rd-best yards from scrimmage.
Schultz: 9th-best QB rating. 8th-best TD passes.
Crane: 5th-best catches, 4th-best receiving yards.

That says that they all had very good FOF seasons, but none top-tier.

Yes, but most of us looking at this poll don't have access to those numbers.

Well, it's not like I change my settings to generate higher stats. I'm fairly certain those are pretty normal numbers.

EDIT: Although I don't have any other careers saved to verify that, but a quick check reveals that the FOFL in 15ish seasons has 8 instances of >1850 yards receiving, and of course most of that is before offense went up a little bit.

It's gotta be the QB.

I personally love RBs and my favorite record is a career 207 TDs rushing, but in the FOF universe, it's QB's that win championships.

Crane, Schultz, Bechtel in that order. Like others have said, Bechtel falls short of the 2,000 yard mark and he only has 10 rushing TDs, which, while good, fall far short of what the other two managed to do.

While this is still the Offensive Player of the Year vote, I still would consider team records. What were the win-loss records of the teams? Also, one player could have a monster game against a crappy team and boost their stats.
