Shower tile
I am recaulking and regrouting my shower. My builder caulked the joint between the floor tile and the side panel tile. Should this be grouted in? I ask because I got some water back behind the panel and am wondering if the increased flex from the caulk joint contributed to this and wonder if I would have better results from grouting that joint.

the problem is that most grout is porous, unless you buy a specific type that isnt and may be a blend. Even then it may microfracture allowing water behind it.
Honestly this is probably one of the biggest struggles builders deal with, AAMOF, some higher end builders are going to the IMO horrible one piece, fiberglass dropins to fight it. I am risk averse when it comes to water and the home so I have grouted, caulked and siliconed the corners of my bathroom. It looks crappier but Im hoping to avoid having to eventually tear it out due to water intrusion. Very very difficult problem.

I would use a silicone caulk.

In my last house, I had to have the shower redone after having a leak in the shower wall. They installed a water barrier, then a pan, then they tiled over it.
Might be a way to go... |
