So Smart, So Dumb

Setting my hurry up offense to 0 to avoid the long bomb play selection at the end of the game.

Works perfectly. Take over at my own 45 with 35 seconds left needing a 3 to tie - no timeouts left.

Cincinnati: Single-Back formation with trips receivers, strength is left. The defense is in a 43 with prevent personnel and 4-deep zone coverage, keying aggressively on the pass.
1-10-CIN45 (4Q: 00:32) J.P. Losman pass completed to WR Chad Johnson for 19 yards. Tackled by S Stuart Schweigert, assisted by CB Stanford Routt. The receiver ran his route right over the middle of the field. Johnson gained 10 yards after the catch.
Cincinnati: Single-Back formation with trips receivers, strength is left. The defense is in a 43 with dime personnel and 2-deep man-to-man coverage, keying aggressively on the pass.
1-10-OAK36 (4Q: 00:14) J.P. Losman spiked the ball to stop the clock.

Perfect. I figure a 53 yard FG attempt, a reasonable chance to tie given the starting circumstances.

But no!

2-10-OAK36 (4Q: 00:10) J.P. Losman pass completed to WR Chad Johnson for 7 yards. The receiver went out of bounds. Tackled by S Michael Huff. The receiver ran his route right over the middle of the field. The quarterback threw away from the double coverage.

After screaming at my Head Coach, I was like wow, perfectly executed. 4 seconds left and a 46 yarder to tie, well within my guy's range.

But because I'm not in hurry up, and it's only third down, we don't kick it.

3-3-OAK29 (4Q: 00:04) Kenny Irons ran around right end for 4 yards. Tackled by S Stuart Schweigert. Key block delivered by Willie Anderson.

Game over.

I'm mad at myself for not considering it might not take a last second shot at a field goal under such circumstances. I get it. I overlooked that.

But damnit, I shouldn't have to set hurry up to 0 to get a decent pro two minute offense.

The game is broken.

I may be an idiot, but the game is still broken.

I have my hurry up set to 0 for all my teams. Luckily it has worked out so far, but I have never hit these circumstances. It worked a treat a couple of weeks back in the RDFL, to ultimately win us a game in OT.

Did you not kick the FG because it was outside your normal FG range, or was it purely because it was 3rd down? I'm guessing the later, which would be sickening.

Because it was 3rd down. I've got my kicker set to 52/59. Really depressing way to lose the game.

So hurry up and clock draining offenses are basically game selected offenses? I really have no control over what happens unless I turn the clock to 0? But then that screws up any chance to tie or win a game late.

In my admittedly only anecdotal experience, yes.

Utilizing the game's Hurry Up Offense will result in long pass or bomb on nearly every down and your gameplan appears to have no effect on it - which is why I set mine to 0. But as I found out above, that means you don't get a shot at a last second field goal unless it's fourth down - at least in this one game we didn't.

Using the Clock draining offense results in running plays that take aprox. 40+ seconds off the clock.

The adjustment screen does not affect the hurry up offense? or the clock draining offense?

Sorry, im trying to get this straight in my head.

Correct. Unfortunately, the game has it's own pre-set ideas about what to do in the 2-minute offense. Unless I've interpreted things terribly, your gameplanning goes out the window when you enter the 2 minute offense.

i think it's best if everyone just gives up and let the game do what it wants. i downloaded SkyDog's gameplan set, i load one up and i hit recommend for the defense and i let the AI gods have their way with my team.
