Hope to get fixed.

I spoke about this issue in a thread a couple of months ago. I had a concern that the AI doens't match my defense with what the offense comes out with.

Indianapolis: Strong formation, strength is left. The defense is in a 34 and 1-deep, bump-and-run coverage, expecting the run.
1-10-IND20 (4Q: 14:07) Joseph Addai ran outside the right tackle for -3 yards. Tackled by S Michael Boulware, assisted by ILB DeMeco Ryans.
Indianapolis: Five-Receiver Spread formation, strength is right. The defense is in a 34 with nickel personnel and 2-deep man-to-man coverage, expecting the pass.
2-13-IND17 (4Q: 13:34) Peyton Manning pass completed to WR Jonathan Smith for 6 yards. The receiver went out of bounds. Tackled by S Michael Boulware.
Indianapolis: I formation, strength is right. The defense is in a 34 with nickel personnel and 2-deep man-to-man coverage, expecting the pass.
3-7-IND23 (4Q: 13:13) Peyton Manning pass completed to WR Anthony Gonzalez for 10 yards. Tackled by OLB Morlon Greenwood.
Indianapolis: Strong formation, strength is left. The defense is in a 34 and 1-deep, man-to-man coverage, expecting the run.
1-10-IND33 (4Q: 12:38) PENALTY: Indianapolis was called for a False Start.
Indianapolis: Pro formation, with the second receiver in the slot, strength is left. The defense is in a 34 with nickel personnel and 2-deep man-to-man coverage, expecting the pass.
1-15-IND28 (4Q: 12:29) Peyton Manning pass was blocked at the line, intended for RB Joseph Addai. OLB Morlon Greenwood blocked the pass.
Indianapolis: Pro formation with two tight ends, strength is right. The defense is in a 34 with dime personnel and 2-deep man-to-man coverage, keying aggressively on the pass.
2-15-IND28 (4Q: 12:23) Peyton Manning pass completed to WR Anthony Gonzalez for 6 yards. Tackled by OLB Morlon Greenwood, assisted by S Dwight Chapman. Gonzalez gained 1 yard after the catch. The quarterback threw into double coverage.
Indianapolis: Pro formation, strength is right. The defense is in a 34 with nickel personnel and 2-deep man-to-man coverage, keying aggressively on the pass.
3-9-IND34 (4Q: 11:37) Peyton Manning pass completed to TE Dallas Clark for 27 yards. Tackled by S Michael Boulware. The receiver ran his route right over the middle of the field. Clark gained 14 yards after the catch. PENALTY: Indianapolis was called for Offensive Holding.
Indianapolis: Pro formation, with the second receiver in the slot, strength is right. The defense is in a 34 with nickel personnel and 2-deep man-to-man coverage, keying aggressively on the pass. Ryans is blitzing.
3-19-IND24 (4Q: 11:20) Chester Taylor ran inside the right guard for 7 yards. Tackled by DT Travis Johnson, assisted by DE Anthony Weaver.
4-12-IND31 (4Q: 10:54) Hunter Smith punted 55 yards. Bethel Johnson returned the kick 3 yards to the HOU17. Tackled by Luke Lawton.

In the game log above the colts come out in a 5 man spread and my defense is still in "nickel" when it should be in "Dime". I have my defense set up in nickel and dime personel when in pass, but the AI doesn't match my personel with the right formation. I hope this can be tweaked and corrected.

I appreciate your concerns Clay, but honestly, I don't really see anything that has to be fixed here. You have the ability to play in nickel and dime as often as you want. If they come out in 5 WR sets, the game automatticaly puts you in pass-defense mode, I believe.

The thing is, to be forced to play nickel/dime would suck for a lot of people. For example, I have 4 LB's that I want on the field at all times. If I have a crappy nickel back, the game shouldn't force me to put him on and replace my 4th linebacker. Ya know?

You have a point from your side, Jetsin06.

I just find it annoying that my team is mismatched against the offense. Teams always match up with the offense. Listen, I'll live. Just passing the thread from Jim to look into.

Teams try to match up, but the offenses are also trying to create mismatches by going no huddle, hurry up, spread offenses. I would think that Jim may have some code in there to allow this edge, wouldnt be realistic if the D was always matchup in the correct/best defense.

Has anyone tested out if just playing say a base 3-4 in all situations works?

It would be realistic if the offense was calling a regular play and the D had time to view what personnel was comming out to match up. That is what happen with my team above. It wasn't a hurry up or no hudddle. If it was, then I can see whatever defense i'm in is it, thats fine.

I know one game sooner or later my opponent will be in a 5 spread and i'll be in a nickel, and he will torch me.

I'll drop this issue. I guess i'm the only one it bothers.
