Truly, he was a legend. I only read one of his novels, 2001: A Space Odyssey, but that one ranks among my favorite all-time science fiction books. Oddly enough, I didn't even read 2001 until I was in graduate school in aerospace engineering (about 4 years ago now I guess). I guess I have him to thank for my career, too, given that I am now an aerospace engineer working on geosynchronous communications satellites. Gosh, now I'm really psyched up to read another of his books...
