I'm very curious as to what the battery life is like with the Touch, when using to just standard audio (music or books) and when watching videos.
I'm going to be doing some serious traveling in the next 6 months (possible but not likely trip to Japan, one maybe two trips to Kourou and maybe a trip to Gibraltar), and I'm thinking about getting one. I currently have a 60 GB 5th gen iPod (hard drive) and an 8 GB Nano (the newest gen which I think is 3rd for the Nano). My big one is great, but for a long flight, I might want to use the video more than I currently do, and that drains that battery fairly quickly. My 8 GB Nano doesn't fit all my music. My goal is to take one iPod with most of my music, a few audiobooks, and a few tv shows or movies, so the Touch has come to mind... I'm particularly interested in battery life info, but any pros/cons from people who have one would be appreciated... /tk

As you probably know, I have the iPhone, which I'd imagine is much more of a battery hog than the Touch, and I can go 4 to 5 days between recharges. So I'd imagine it would definitely last the duration of a trans-oceanic flight.

Im really hoping for a massive price drop in the 32 gig version soon. I really want one, but I think 300 is about the most I want to spend.

The battery on mine was absolutely horrible, so bad we would have taken it back to the store but we lost the receipt over christmas (it was a gift). Most of the time I would only get 15-30 minutes of battery time if the wi-fi receiver was on (even if I was just listening to music with the screen off) and maybe 2 hours with the wi-fi off.
After the last software update, things seem way better. I can get 6-8 hours of music at work without the wi-fi on now, which suits me fine. Honestly, unless you a) are going to be somewhere regularly that gets a solid wireless signal but you wouldn't be using the internet otherwise or b) you really love videos & TV shows (and are willing to pay for the increase in memory) - I would stick with the combo you already have. Basically I use mine as a very expensive mp3 player. |
