Purchasing Advice

I recently bought a MacBook Pro, and would like to get a sports management game I can play on it. The way I figure it, I pretty much have two choices, Worldwide Soccer Manager 2008, or Out of the Park Baseball 8. Which would you all recommend I buy? Which is the better game? I know Out of the pArk has a new one coming out soon, but I don't care. I just want to play the better game. Thanks for your input.

Anecdotally, it seems like many, many more denizens of this board are satisfied with WWSM than OOTP.

For what reason do you guys feel WWSM is so much better? Out of th Park looks like a good game to me. I'm more of a baseball game, but if I'm immersed in the game, then I guess the sport really doesn't matter.

players in WWSM have personality.

In WWSM I have a standing rule that if a guy plays a decade with me I keep him around forever, regardless of his salary or his role (backup defenders, chronic benchwarmer, whatever). I get attached to my players, I talk about them when I'm not playing like they're alive.

In OOTP I would cut the previous year's Cy Young award winner if he'd been with my team for a decade in a heartbeat. He feels just like...a set of numbers.

What are the pluses and minuses of each if you don't mind? What leagues are the most fun in WWSM? Is the MLS any good? From what I've gathered you can only run a few leagues in WWSM, and that you also can't import saved games from version to version?

Marc F'n Vaughan is the reason I spend $15/month on Setanta. I'm working up an invoice though!

I'd heartily recommend either Sim - obviously I'm somewhat biased when it comes to FM, but I've worked with Markus a fair bit and believe in him and OOTP - this coming years version will win a lot of fans imho.

Get WWSM, it's sequel is around six months further away. OOTP9 will be coming out pretty soon.

WWSM/FM is crack. I bitch and I moan about it because its so infected my real life that at times I can't tell the difference.

I kid... I think.

I'll readily admit sometimes I find myself having to think hard about certain players to remember which team they're at irl because they've moved in my FM game and its their team in that which I've started associating them with.

WWSM sounds like the more popular choice. I like baseball better, but it sounds as though WWSM is the better game over OOTP.

well, I downloaded WWSM, installed the patch, and now I guess I'm ready to go. Now what I need, is some good advice on how to get things started. I know I'll be playing with fictional players, but other than that, I'm not sure what leagues to run(or how many) what size data base to use or anything else. I just don't know what's out there. It seems like WWSM is a big universe. But I would like to get it set up right the first time, so I can jump in without having to look back.

I'm hearing the MLS isn't too good. Is this true?
