FYI: the term "Pearl Jam" (Confiture De Perle) was first used by french sailors to describe the fruit they lived on while at sea.

I preferred the name Mookie Blaylock. Andrew Wood kicked Eddie Vedder's ass in every conceivable way, anyway.

Sorry. U2 must go. Those pompous jerks irritate more than any other band on the list. IMO they haven't produced a great album since the Joshua Tree.

I'm there. This is tough because we don't want to have another Beastie-type sneak.

This might have been asked before, but does Van Halen refer to the real Van Halen, Van-Hagar, or those other weird groups under the same name that followed?

You're complaining about pompous jerks but forgetting about the Kings of Pomposity, Pearl Jam?!?

Achtung Baby is one of the greatest albums of all time. And All That You Can't Leave Behind is at least good.

VH refers to all three incarnations considered as a whole. In a future game, I might break it up into Chicken Lee Broth and Van Hagar eras, but for now, it's all one group.

Interesting. The story that I always heard about how they got their name was that one of the band members had a grandmother (or great-aunt, I can't remember which) who made preserves with halucinagenic properties, and that they named the band Pearl Jam in her honor...

Third Eye Blind gets my vote. I like PJ and GGD at least used to be good...

Oh great, the grunge is back and the more incentive to get PJ out. Did you see me responding to splitpersonality's rant about U2? I couldn't care less if no one else likes U2 or slams on them. Now back to getting PJ back to the garbage with Nirvana.

Kodos: I'd like to hear what makes you think Pearl Jam is pompus. I promise I'm not gonna bite anyones head off this time I'm just curious.

Eddie Vedder is so full of himself, that if you cut him open, you'd find several move Eddies inside!

Now we can settle this disagreement like they did in the Old West - with a poll.

You are correct about PJ. They are also "Kings of Pomposity" (I love that title). I will be trying to vote them out as well.

Ugh! Hardly better than "War" or "Boy or even "Under a Blood Red Sky"

I liked PJ's first album - still do. The second one I anxiously waited for, but was sorely disappointed. I think the precise moment I was disappointed came when I listened to Daughter and realized that it was nothing mroe than a cookie-cutter version of Jeremy. I haven't listened to them since.

I still think Mother Love Bone was much better than PJ.

U2 - I've never liked them, even when it was trendy in high school when Joshua Tree came out. I've got 3 bootlegs, though, if anyone is interested in trading!

I'll be voting for both of them in the near future.

In truth, I hardly like most of the post-Achtung Baby stuff. This was brought home to me when I saw the titles on their new GH2 and unlike the first one, there are only 3 songs I like from that album. I'm just not into Euro-techno pop. Achtung Baby, while a good album, it is too depressing to listen to. There was nothing like the October-War-Unforgettable Fire-Joshua Tree albums, with the spooky Under the Blood Red Sky thrown in.

Bah, I remember in the early 80s some friends of mine raving about U2. I thought they were whiney and pretentious then, and now they are over-produced, bloated, whiney, and pretentious.

It looks like a Long Way Down to the next group behind the Goo Goo Dolls. I don't think they'll make it!
