My Contract Calculator Excel Spreadsheet

I'm not much of a contributor on this forum, but I've been a long time lurker and have taken many fantastic tips from users here and implemented them into my gameplay.

I figured it was time I give something back and so I've decided to share my Excel spreadsheet that I use to calculate my contract offers. I never noticed something like this on here before, but I apologize if I'm stepping on any toes.

File: contract_calculator.xls v1.0
Purpose: Intended to be used to calculate a contract offer for a player with 0 (free agent, etc.) or 1 year remaining on his contract.

Use: The spreadsheet is pretty straightforward, but I will break it down.

The Request
  • Total Value: Amount the player is requesting when you open the negotiation window. (31,850,000 can be entered as 31.85)
  • Bonus: The amount of bonus money the player is requesting when you open the negotiation window.
  • Years: Number of years over which the player would like the contract to cover.
  • Bonus %: Automatically calculated from above input. Given only for informational purposes.

The Offer
  • Current Bonus: If your player has 1 year remaining on his current contract and you'd like to renegotiate you can enter the existing bonus money that will count against the current year's cap here. The calculator will then spread this amount out across the new deal to even out the cap hit. On occasion using this will cause your Year 1 salary to fall below the minimum for that player. Simply reduce this number until the Year 1 cap hit works. Enter 0 to disable.
  • % Up/Down: This begins your counter offer. If you are trying to ensure you lock down a free agent you might enter 9 here to increase your offer 9% over what the player is requesting. You might also consider entering -12 if you are looking to resign a loyal veteran.
  • % Bonus: You can enter whatever percentage bonus you'd like to offer the player. You can go higher or lower than the player's request depending on your desired angle. Enter as a whole number like 27 or 39.
  • Years: Simply how many years you'd like to lock this player up for.
  • % Annual +: The percent you want your player's yearly cap hit to increase by. Useful if you want to have your player's contract increase as the salary cap increases. Enter .01 if you'd like to offer a consistent yearly amount otherwise enter a whole number such as 7 for a 7% annual increase.

The Contract
  • Total Value: For information purposes, this is the total value of your offer should this player remain on your roster for the length of the deal.
  • Value of X: Informational purposes only, used as part of the salary calculation.
  • Contract Breakdown: Simply enter the bonus and yearly salary amounts as they appear.
