Digital Cable question

we have a new HDTV and I used a calibration DVD to get all the settings right.

the blue-ray player looks phenomenal as do SOME of the HD channels from our comcast cable.

However some of them look not quite up to par.

NO, it is not standard def programming - I am not an AV expert, but I am a bit past the idiot stage.

A neighbor suggested I have Comcast come and check the signal strength.

My initial thought is that because it is a digital signal and not a analog one that the signal can't really have a low strength like an analog one it is either on or off. Can anyone with more knowledge confirm this and set me straight?

can the signal be boosted and the picture improved?

Some of the HD channels are "fake," basically just upconverted SD content. And most of the time it can be poorly done. TBS/TNT are among the ones that don't look so hot, I bet. A lot of it depends on the original source of hte show. For instance, early sopranos episodes look like ass on A&E HD, whereas later ones were actually shot in HD and look fine.

I doubt it is the signal strength, basically with digital stuff you either get it or not.
