Lets see your Brackets Boys

Let's find out how everyone thinks the NCAA tournament is going to turn out. I think you can see my overwhelming Duke bias, even though I think they suck this year. I normally do bad at the brackets, but its fun to try.

Yellow means move on, black loses. (so says espn.com)

I will post my bracket tomorrow.

I dont see Florida making a ton of noise. It doesnt appear to me that Donovan is a good coach, great recruiter, but his teams tend to have no structure on the floor.

I havent totally filled out my bracket yet......but I believe Maryland will knock out FL. So Easy Mac our brackets will differ ALOT!

That is funny how you have Manhattan winning in the first round.

Sorry Marm, the 2 times I saw Cuse on TV I wasn't impressed, and I just think the Jaspers look like an upset kind of team this year. I'm probably wrong, but a really weird upset seems to happen every year.

The brackets are going to have to be switched because if BYU wins they would have to play on Sunday. They cannot do that though since they are morman. I just heard this on ESPN they say they are thinking of just switching Weber State and BYU.

On CBS they showed UConn/BYU as a Thur/Sat game. So I'm confused now - ESPN.com has taken down their bracket.

Can BYU not play on Saturday - or am I wrong that CBS had UConn/BYU as a Thursday game in Spokane?

Edit: Spokane is a Th/Sat site - so I guess the mormons can't play on Saturday?

This article talks about the BYU potential move. Also how the tournament selection committee was confused and accidentally put Kentucky in the wrong bracket. What a joke! I thought they were in there for hours so they could get everything as close to right as they felt was possible.

What about just moving the game to Monday, if that situation presents itself. I don't see BYU making it out of the first round so it's a non-issue in my book.

For those doing multiple pools, do you do the same picks or vary them?

I have to agree with you on the finals. I think OU has a legitimate shot at the finals, but im not convinced they can beat Kentucky. But you never know. OU can play defense with the best of them, and usually the final games are defensive battles.

Just curious, were these the two UConn games?

I was going to ask the same thing Samdari. Those two UConn games were the worst played of the year for Syracuse. They just don't matchup with UConn at all, plus UConn always comes out so fired up to play Syracuse. They feel Syracuse is their biggest rival, while UConn is just a regular game for Syracuse.

I have UK, Arizona, Maryland and Syracuse in the Final 4, with Arizona over Syracuse in the final. Other big upset picks are both Missouri and Central Michigan Elite 8.

And I guess that "change" will come right after the first round upsets?

Depends upon which pool I'm working on at that moment. If there's cash involved then I'm pretty consistent, if I'm just bracketing for bracketing's sake then I'm more subject to changing a pick based upon my feeling at that moment.

Typically though the first bracket I fill in does best, it's when I start second-guessing myself that I have early collapses.

FTR, this may be a tad unfair. It's kind of stupid to have their job for the entire year come down to less than 24 hours. Why not give them until Monday evening to work everything out? (the 65th team causes a problem, but that aside...) As it stands now, the committee has what, an hour, to finalize things? And everything is contingent on something else. Just give them an extra day, I don't see what harm it'd do.

Here's a humerous little article I picked up off of another M.B., regarding CBS & their dilemma...

Enjoy....

War Coverage Might Ruin
NCAA Tourney Coverage

By NORMAN CHAD
AOL Exclusive

As we venture from Selection Sunday to Saddam Sunday, America -- a multitasking superpower if there ever was one -- will show the rest of the world how to simultaneously travel on the Road to the Final Four and on the highway of mass destruction.

It's not a question of whether we can slam dunk and drop bombs at the same time, it's a question of whether we can watch both from the comfort of our couches.

The answer, of course, is yes.

The problem for CBS, the home of the NCAA men's basketball tournament, is that it can't show both on-the-court and off-the-court battles at the same time.

So, in the event of war, CBS says it will likely shift part of the tournament to cable.

And you didn't think Billy Packer spoke to the MTV generation. Hey, by next weekend, folks, he'll be on MTV.

According to my intelligence sources, the war is likely to start Thursday at 8PM ET, 7PM CT. (Check your local listings.) With an Iraqi invasion, the U.S. military has two major concerns: 1. It would prefer to launch an attack in daylight, so it can better see where to drop the bombs; 2. It would prefer to initiate major attacks to coincide with prime-time programming in America.

Because of the time difference between New York and Baghdad -- eight hours -- it's possible to achieve both objectives! Reveille is going to be PRETTY DARN EARLY for Team USA, but you can't sell beer and soap if everyone's sleeping in.

(America is nothing if not ambitious -- last year we realigned the NFL, this year we'll realign the Middle East.)

Now, something seems terribly wrong to me when one of our most treasured sporting celebrations, the NCAA Tournament, gets pushed off its rightful broadcast home on network television because some suit in midtown Manhattan decides more money can be made by going live halfway around the world for your garden-variety, three-weeks-and-out armed conflict.

The last time around, as you may recall, cable was indeed the home of wall-to-wall war coverage. This is why we have cable. But times have changed. For starters, the networks, in the throes of declining viewership, have decided there's no reason to cede the boffo war ratings to cable. Plus, "reality TV" is all the rage of late, and what greater reality is there than the end of the world?

So move over, Raymond, everyone loves a showdown with Saddam.

(Programming Note: No matter the nature of the war, no matter how long it persists, no matter how apocalyptic its consequences, the entire NCAA women's basketball tournament -- all 63 games -- will be televised by ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPN Full Court, thanks in part to Title IX and in part to unbreakable contractual commitments.)

Anyway, CBS will farm out its men's tournament coverage. CBS' parent company, Viacom, owns many cable channels, including Nickelodeon, TV Land, TNN, MTV and VH1.

NCAA hoops on Nickelodeon? (I could understand Dick Vitale on the Sci-Fi Channel, but that's an entirely different matter.) There is a certain world order, and this includes what we expect from our TV universe of 500 channels.

CNN, for instance, is for news and war.

The Weather Channel is for bad weather.

HGTV is for quilting and patio furniture.

Lifetime is for women.

Animal Planet is for animals.

Bloomberg TV is for Michael Bloomberg.

And, the last time I looked, CBS is for Andy Rooney, bad sitcoms and March Madness.

While CBS Sports president Sean McManus has assured an anxious SportsNation that MTV and VH1 won't be involved, I can't believe that bracket-carrying viewers from Portland, Maine to Portland, Oregon will sit still for Louisville-Austin Peay on TNN.

Heck, I don't even know what TNN stands for.

Our last hope, from best I can tell, is the chance that CBS cuts its tournament cable deal with ESPN, a distinct possibility that developed late last week. I can live with that, and not because I'm wearing my free fleece pullover I got for subscribing to ESPN The Magazine.

(Please note: I canceled my subscription and kept the pullover.) Rather, I think we can all agree -- even if the world is tumbling to an end, ESPN must give us all-sports all-day all-night all the time, 24-7. For, in troubled times, ESPN is our pacifier.

(On the other hand, I had a bad dream the other night in which Andy Katz was breaking down Iraqi troop movements.)

Anyhow, as always, I'll be rooting for America and Xavier, though not necessarily in that order.

By the way, I've said it before and I'll say it again:

Wolf Blitzer would make an excellent sideline or courtside reporter.

Not sure what Easy Mac did but I downloaded an empty bracket from a newspaper. Then I used a paint program to type in my picks and edit out some of the garbage that they put on the papers. Lastly I uploaded it to a free website.

Im sure there are alot easier ways to do it but I have been doing this for years and it works.
