Political Machine 2008 Released
I enjoyed the original in 2004 and just saw that a newer version was released in the last day or so. It is downloadable, so I think I'll check it out for $19.99.

I've purchased based on my enjoyment of the original and a preview IGN did and will play it some tomorrow.

Played a couple games this afternoon.
Feels very much like the original, but with a few twists and I'm finding my strategies from the previous game don't work in this one. Information is more readily available and you can more easily get a feel for what causes what. Fun game. If you didn't like the first you won't like this one. I'm enjoying it though, the fact that they moved political capital for endorsements and hiring operatives into two different categories that you can't just spend stamina to buy is a huge change. Seems to make speeches a much more integral part of the game, and makes money tighter. |

Looking forward to buying this one as I enjoed 2004 quite a bit. Too bad this game and OOTP9 is essentially being released at the same time.

If anyone bought this through digital download - does the license allow you to install the game on 2 different computers - similar to most of the text based games?

Well there's no copy protection of any sort on the game so I think you could do it. Stardock's biggest upside is their aversion to any sort of intrusive means.
I saw this question asked on the official boards about using 1 copy for a LAN game and a Stardock employee responded. "You're not supposed to (the Liscense agreement has something about that) but it's not like we can stop you Just dont upload it to a warez site " Last edited by Calis : 06-19-2008 at 01:14 PM. |

I've played a single race so far and enjoyed it.
It is about 80%+ the same as the last version, but it has some nice refinements. Customizing the look of your custom candidate is pretty amusing. There are a number of unlockable aspects of the game now and different campaign scenarios (I think there is a Civil War map and an alien map and candidate from one of their other games). They have also refined the political capital concept by splitting it into Public Relations and Political Capital (which are earned by different types of buildings). I'm encouraged early on -- especially when you factor in the cost of the game. |
