It has become the most over-used phrase in this war so far. The Pentagon has said that the level of bombardment will bring "shock and awe" to the Iraqi army. LOL. I have CNN on while I'm typing this post. They've said "shock and awe" three times while I've been typing, and I'm a fairly decent typist.

From what I understand, massive bombing (not firebombing, but targeted bombings) coordinated with the start of a push to Baghdad meant to intimidate soldiers into surrender.

The Pentagon is saying it will be unlike any military offensive yet.

a bombardment the likes of which the world hasn't seen, as far as I can tell. I don't remember the exact breakdown of how much firepower they're talking about using, but throw the new MOABs in there, and it's likely a doozy.
