CivCity Rome vs. Caesar IV
I'm itching to play a Roman city-building type game. Both of these can be picked up cheaply at this point. Any recommendations as to which one is a better experience?

yes. recommendations please.
IIRC from the original thread i think we had on roman city building games ben, all of them have their problems - no one of them is "great." i think the consensus MIGHT be that caesar IV is better but i also am not sure and am curious to see what others that have played them say, because my memory is hazy |

I have both.. very interchangable and both very enjoyable, but the Sid one is slightly worse imho
oh hell just get both I'll let you know more tommorow after playing them both today... man, not having to work for 5 months is a blast.. except for the big scar on my chest, no sex, no driving and the measly disability check Last edited by Apathetic Lurker : 09-23-2008 at 08:35 AM. |

Can someone dig up the previous thread on this? What I don't recall whether Caesar IV ended up being more of a "Children of the Nile" societal-building game. I consider the Impressions games to be my second favorite game series of all time but I did not like move from a city-building to a societal-building gameplay.

I searched and read those threads before posting. They're not terribly informative. The CivCity one lasted like 3 days, and the Caesar IV one spiraled off topic. I would imagine there have been patches, updates, user mods, etc. since they were posted, too. I was hoping by posting here to get some updated info...

i actually thought about spinning civrome up again a couple weeks ago, and came back to the thread to see if thought it would be worth it...decided not to and played roller coaster tycoon instead.

I wouldn't recommend either but instead I would go with the EU Rome game which will have a $9.99 expansion out in December.

For anyone that liked the EU:Rome game, there is an expansion out ,that really makes a good game great IMHO. It cleans up and simplies the interface, totally rewrote combat/military AI, and added a ton of new character/personality features. This has brought this game alot closer now to the Crusader Kings game albeit in an EU framework. Ther expansion is $9.99 at gamer's gate if interested:

demo for "Grand Ages: Rome" by Haemimot Games is on Steam. Looks like it's the strategy-game followup to Imperium Romanum the citybuilder Last edited by DaddyTorgo : 03-02-2009 at 03:05 PM. |

I know I:R had its share of flaws (just from the reviews, i never picked it up), but I'm hopeful that this will be better since the genre is a lil different. the screenies sure look BEAUTIFUL

I was disappointed in both, especially because I loved Casear 3 and played it forever. 4 was a backwards step in almost every way - but now with 3D!!!!!

The GF bought me Grand Ages Rome two days ago.
I've been messing with it yesterday, and it looks promising. Great visuals and simple construction interface that really helps. The map interface takes a bit to get used to... it doesn't zoom in and out smoothly, jumping scales instead of transitioning... So far so good. ![]()

cool NC. I didn't take the plunge yet, so I'll be interested in your thoughts after a lil more playing. The visuals and the simple interface were definately nice. |
