AshleyMadison.com - online dating service with a twist

Interesting concept, a statement about our society I guess (at least in MA).

Risqué ads promoting affair website hit the Hub

Quote:
BOSTON -- A new local ad campaign is promoting some risqué business.

The Ashley Madison Agency is an online dating service, which hooks up married men and women with other people. The company's website, AshleyMadison.com, says it "guarantees an affair to remember."

Its motto is, "Life is short, have an affair."

It couldn't hurt to check it out. Worst came to worst, I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult to get any evidence removed from your credit card statement.

You are just hearing about his now?

I actualy heard an interview with the founder on Howard Stern on day and he was very down to earth and had alot of things to say that made sense. Obviously some people would disagree with his practice. Basicly he said people are going to do it anyway so he gives them a safe enviorment, etc...

I'd be very worried that these services would make the company liable for damages.

Seriously though, I wonder what their liability insurance / situation is like. Couldn't they be named as a co-defendant in an "alienation of affection" type lawsuit, or a divorce lawsuit? Or, thinking worst-case, what about in a criminal case?

never happen in a million years.

I have never visited the sight and have no desire to, but I would imagine there are a number of waivers you have to agree to. I am also sure they have an army of lawyers.

I laugh at people who get all up in arms about this, like they are the morality police. The guy found a niche and found a way to make alot of money off of it, good for him I say.

You're definitely not looking hard enough.

Saw a story not long ago about how Youtube is commonly used by young kids to learn about binge drinking and how to creatively get high. Better shut it down.

I agree that there's no legal liability (and there shouldn't be) for this company facilitating this behavior.

I'll also note that no one here seems to be saying that they don't have the right to do this or that they should be shut down.

All I said was that they deserve to rot in hell. They can make all the money they want in the meantime. They're not getting any money from me, so it's no skin off my nose.

I think the spouse of someone who goes to Ashley Madison and finds out is going to be pissed at the cheater. Not Ashley Madison, why should you be.

Or, once again, why should you care at all. People continue to confuse me.

Yup.

Understand that I rank infidelity right up there with child molestation on the Scale of Evil Behaviors, though. I recognize that others feel differently.

Just because I think they deserve to rot in hell doesn't mean they have to. It doesn't even have to hurt their feelings that I think so. My personal moral judgments really don't carry any weight in the grand scheme of things.

The Ashley Madison guy may feel the same way about the fact that I don't recycle and think that people who do are idiots.

Of course it would. I'd be pissed at her, upset at the situation whatever. Ashley Madison itself would be lost in some ancillary fuzziness.

If someone t-boned you at an intersection, would you dread the intersection? Psychologists will tell you it's the same reaction.

You should read up on post-infidelity discovery PTSD.

No I wouldn't. I was almost killed in a car accident and drove through that intersection many times without incident afterwards.

I do see your point however and we will just have to agree to disagree.

I hope I never have to read up on infidelity, I know what you went through and you are stronger then me. There would be no second chances as far as I am concerned.

Old age is actually the #1 cause of the destruction of marriages in the world.

Anyhoo, I see no reason why this place should be held legally liable for anything. I also see no reason why someone shouldn't be able to hold them morally liable at all. I personally wouldn't want to have to get up every morning knowing I'm making a living off destroying lives, but for each his own.

I'm cool with that, Lathum.

On the business model, I actually don't disagree with you. I just see their presentation as poor taste. To me, it's the equivalent of gun maker advertising "Life is short. Shoot your wife." or a beer maker going with "Life is short. Drive drunk." because the aftermath for the victims (the betrayed spouse and the children) is pretty much the same.

Me too, man. It is by far the hardest thing I have ever done. And I used to be a "no second chances" guy, right up to the point that I had to realize that giving my kids a stable, loving, complete household was an obligation I took on when they were born, and one I had to keep if it was at all possible.

Life is funny that way. You never know how you're going to react until you're forced to deal with it.

Sorry, Marc. No scandal brewing. From the FAQ:

http://www.ashleymadison.com/app/public/faq.p?s=5#31

Are there any 'Singles' on Ashley Madison?
There are many single people on Ashley Madison that wish to meet attached people for various reasons.

If you are single and wish to meet an attached person, you're probably going to have to try a little harder. Single people don't have as much to risk and you may find some attached people unwilling to take a risk with you.

People in relationships may feel that you have an upper-hand and that you may not be sympathetic to their circumstances. Take your time to build an additional level of trust with attached people you wish to meet.

Alternatively, single people have more flexibility with their schedule & are usually more available. Singles are more apt to work within your limitations since they have few boundaries. Single people can also be more fun to be with - their guard is down & they don't care who sees them.
