The Blackberry Storm Thread.

Anyone else grab the new blackberry being sold by Verizon? I like it a bunch, but I'm having a rough time trying to get the damn thing to work on my employer's e-mail server.

The lack of applications is also kind of depressing (I'm *over* Word Mole), but hopefully that stuff will come in time.

Otherwise, I think it's a great phone.

My wife wants one. I told her to beg her boss, 'cause I'm not buying her one...

I have seen many mixed reviews on it. Im curious to hear from people who have had a "hands on" with it.

Is it actually as laggy as some say?

Also, Im not really clear on how the screen works. Does it just make a clicking sound when you press a letter, or does the screen actually depress? And if it does depress, does it seem durable?

One of the guys I train with works at Qualcomm and told me that they gave him 10 Blackberry Storms to test with. He said that everytime someone came into the lab, they'd have to lock it up in a safe or desk to keep anyone else from seeing it - and from his description, it doesn't seem that impressive.

He wasn't fond of the quality of the phone in general, and felt that it wasn't ready - and that he kept running into 'bugs' while messing around with the phone that irked him.

Hopefully it's better then the Pearl. I've gone through two of them in less then 5 months, this time it's physical damage so they wont do anything with it. I dont think I'm buying a blackberry again

Speaking of working on the employers email server.

Seeing as how I maintain my company's email server, anyone know if this Blackberry works any different than previous ones, specifically in reguards to Exchange?

Is it still pretty much a Blackberry Enterprise Server or desktop redirector or did RIM finally figure out how idiotic it was not to support a direct connection to Exchange through Active Synch. Even the iPhone does.

Yeah, I'm a little sick of having to support an extra server with these Blackberries(and pay for a CAL for christ's sake). I just don't see why they are worth it.

Other than the Blackberry name, I don't see what it has going for it over the iphone. We love our iphones.

Well, I do like my iPhone, but I assume that this works a little better Office, email, and the like.

That said, it does seem to be not nearly as well built as the iPhone(from reviews), so I dont think it would last long with me. My iPhone has taken several hard hits and doesnt have a scratch to show for them. That is why I asked about the screen.

The screen is like a big mouse button - when you touch it the screen highlights where you are touching it but you actually have to press it in to click. There are some functions you accomplish by just touching, tapping, or swiping across the screen as well.

email is lovely with BB devices.

Also does video capture and MMS ( latter is carrier specific).

Office functions are superior on BBs.

I just snagged a couple of these for me and the wife from Verizon with the b1g1. 2 for 200 is not a bad deal at all. I'm getting used to it pretty quickly cause I had a pearl before. I don't use it at all for work. I do think the screen orientation is a bit screwy right now, so I hope they can fix that with firmware.

I know an IPhone is probably better, but I don't have any major complaints yet. Just a few annoyances, but I'm sure they are mostly me getting used to it.

Call quality is pretty good, and I get a much better signal than I did with TMobile. Hence why I'll be paying the Third Reich's cell phone company an ETF. TMobile definitely has the worlds largest 0G network. I was beginning to think my current carrier was "Searching..." as that always seemed to be where the current network was displayed.

You know you're fucked when your phone goes into roaming when you're outside your house.

I probably would have bought the Bold if it was on Verizon, though. The Storm does seem like it's going to be high maintence. The small gap between the case and the screen looks like it will attract schmegma.
