"Wants Winner"
How important is the "Wants Winner" stat of a player? I recently traded away Michael Boley shortly after resigning him to a $25 mill+/5 Years deal because he didn't really want to win. (I believe it was a 7). I got a third pick in the second round for him.
Now I'm thinking of trading up to draft a QB who's got most of his skill bars to the right, is listed as 'Overrated' by my scout, but his Volitility test is Very High and so is his Soleismic. However, the one thing I don't love about him is his "wants winner" is only fair (34). So how important is this stat? |

Hmm, my impression is that it has absolutely nothing to do with the player's motivation or performance on the field, but instead relates to his desire to sign with an accomplished or contending team if he becomes a free agent.
I don't have access to FOF 2007 handy, but the game documentation for FOF 2004 states: Play to Win - the player's desire to play for a team that is a major threat to win the Front Office Bowl. Not exactly a slam dunk, but I think it supports the idea that he is a guy motivated to play on a winning team. I don't think I have ever, ever made a personnel decision based on this rating in any way. And I've played a fair bit of this game, one might say. |

What's the most important thing you guys look at when you sign or add players to your team?

The QB I was talking about is now a 86-89, and he led my team to the playoffs. His volatility is 99, so should I still send him to summer camp after the season is over?

No. That's for experience, and he's near the top of his experience, so send someone else who can use a bit of polishing.

I also look for red bars that fill the screen, but since I can rarely have that, I look for red or blue bars in the abilities I need most for that position. I always look at past performance, too, especially if the guy is/was on my team. I'd say it's about 50% bars 50% past performance for me. But Ben's answer is funnier ![]() |
