Now I'm lost

I see that Rex in generally considered the best starting point for organizing your team. It's working for me so far- my first season of forcing my offense into me favoured aceback formation was nothing like as good as my Rex'd second.

But having finished TC Rex has now come up with 2 bizarre starters. At QB it's picked my second best- in all ratings, across the board. How/ why? And it wants to put my rookie FS at SS. When my starting SS (who's dropped) is my best DB. My old FS who is now trade bait can't handle my coverage preferences- which is Zone (which he can't play at all). Plus overall ratings wise he is Safety #3

Is Rex seeing something I simply can't fathom? How/ Why?!?

Can you post details on the players? Rex is certainly not perfect and I've swapped guys before, just because Rex's opinion doesn't always match mine.

Sure! Here's the QBs

Both 2 year vets; I picked Foley (26/50) in the 2nd round & Doar (20/46) in the 3rd with a spare pick as insurance, probably because I never really decided between the pair at interview stage.

FOLEY: Scr: 14/39 Sh: 27/55 M: 41/71 Lg:0/0 Dp: 36/64 3D: 27/55 Acc: 49/77 Tim: 80/85 SenRsh: 10 Reads: 22/56 2min: 10/18 Scram: 38

DOAR: Scr: 18/42 Sh: 13/46 M: 23/58 Lg:27/43 Dp: 22/33 3D: 28/33 Acc: 18/50 Tim: 34/49 SenRsh: 38 Reads: 26/56 2min: 14/49 Scram: 16

The zero for Long passing with Foley is pretty weird as he can throw the deep stuff; my only worry about Foley is that poor sense rush. But generally Foley looks better than Doar, regardless of what Scheme I'm trying to run.

And ther safeties

I had SS BROWN rated 61. And FS WILLIAMS, rated 55/57- who can't do Zone cover, but is otherwise fine. Thanks to my corners I want to shift to a Zone first Man second B&R never scheme (following a tip on here- get your secondary in synch with coverages and it can perform over it's ratings).

The draft gave me FS MAHAN, rated 54/80. Rex wants Mahan at SS and Williams at FS, dropping Brown. Ratings:

BROWN: Run: 79 Man: 87 Zone: 58 B&R: 27 PlyDiag: 60 PunsH:95 Int: 42

MAHAN: Run: 55/100 Man: 48/50 Zone: 42/83 B&R:45/70 PlyDiag: 58/100 PunsH:50 Int: 86/90

WILLIAMS: Run: 88/96 Man: 76/81 Zo:12/14 B&R 8/9 PlyDiag: 19/20 PunsH:97 Int: 93

I cannot see how Brown can be anything less than the #1 safety of those 3- whilst admitting having all 3 is more of a luxury than I can afford!!!

Preseason? The AI chooses young guys to get them developed then.

After slapping my forehead, I can see that works for the safeties- but what about the QBs? Wouldn't giving max experience to my starter-to-be be the optimum (whilst trying to keep QB #3- the disgruntled mentor- happy).

Actually wouldn't it be Williams you's shift to SS? Look at those runstop numbers...

Dunno how it behaves when you have multiple rookies at the same position.

On the safeties, I think it works like other positions: there's a hierarcy. It makes a choice at the most important position, then after that it chooses the best of the leftovers.

On Safeties I would start Mahan at Free Safety (best Zone coverage of the bunch) and Williams at Strong Safety (Run Defense numbers, wish he had better Play Diagnosis though, plus good INT skills.

Brown probably needs to play corner ;-)

Bugger- I might have stuffed my contracts up a tad there, having just signed Brown to anchor my secondary for the next 4-5 years.

Oh well.
