my plan to revise the NFL schedule

I believe this schedule format would lead to much better marquee matchups across the board.

first off, seed everyone each year by their records the previous 3 seasons.

Seeds one and two play seeds one and two in the other divisions in their conference. 3/4 play each other(6 games)
Teams play everyone in their division 2 times(6 games)
Teams play their corresponding seed in the other conference(4 games)

That's a total of 16 games.
Every team would go east to west(or vice versa) 2 times one year. Then 1 the next.

You'd see a lot more Pats/Colts and Pats/Giants games. And hopefully less Steelers/Lions type games.

Good teams would hopefully play good teams more often.

What a treat it would be to be a Rams fan. Which game you guys want to go to this year? Tampa? Detriot? Oakland? Nah, lets wait for the big Monday night Cleveland game.

I think the current rules already do more than enough to punish success.

I don't really think this would work.

You would have crap teams making the playoffs every year because they were a little less crappy than all the other teams they played.

Not to mention I could see teams whose seasons were in the shitter already tanking games to get a more favorable schedule the next 3 years.

Yeah, this would be pretty awful. You'd have Miami teams who play 10 games against the top 12 in the draft make the playoffs while decent teams win 1-2 fewer because they face a gauntlet of tough opponents.

Imagine if your team played New Orleans, NY Giants and the Vikings. Now, imagine another team in your division instead played the Rams, Lions and Redskins. In order to beat then out, you'd basically need to be 4-5 games *better* to make up for the tougher schedule.

The other problem is that you lose the guarantee that teams will face each other at least every X years. I remember that being a real selling point when the NFL changed its schedule to the current format. Every team is guaranteed to play every other team at least once every 4 years. And every team will visit every other NFL stadium at least every 8 years.

Are they still talking about adding a 17th game? How will that affect scheduling?

What about division games (6)
Games against another division in your conference on a rotation (4)
Games against the team from the other 6 divisions who finished where you did last season (6)

That gives you 10 games not based on strength of schedule. But it does make strength of schedule mean more than it does now.

If they add any games to the schedule they have to add 2 to make 18 or the scheduling becomes a nightmare again for the league. By adding two they simply add the counter part to your finishing position.

AKA if you won your division you would play the 1st placeteam in the other two divisions in your coinference (other than the div you play everyone in)and then you would also play the 2nd place team. 3/4 placing teams would play the 3 and 4 placing teams in those off divisions.

Simply update to the schedule, league keeps flowing smoothly, we waste less effort on worthless preseason shyte where our star players get hurt.
