Penalty Declined Fail
I knew I shouldn't have hired Ron Zook...
Quote:
Methinks this might should be addressed in any forthcoming patches for FOF.

There is a 5-yard difference. You're looking at 2nd-and-10 from the 40 or 1st-and-10 from the 45. What's the score of the game? With the former you're that much closer to FG range.

I would prefer a 1st and 10 from the OPP45 to a 2nd and 10 from the OPP40.
With 9:30 left in the game, it's not like you are running out of time if it is a close game... and you get 3 plays to move the ball 10 yards, rather than 2 plays. 2nd and 10 forces you to pass more often, thereby making your offense more predictable. Just my opinion on why you'd want to accept the penalty there ![]() |

That play shouldn't be declined. Unless it was like a record breaking throw/reception. And even then, probably still shouldn't be declined.

I think it's close enough that there's not a correct answer. In RL you'll probably see it go both ways, depending on the feel of the coach. I'd be curious what the game engine used to determine to decline it, but it's not necessarily a bad decision either way.

What am I missing?
Unless there are like less than 10 seconds on the clock and you need a FG to tie or win, under what circumstances would you ever decline this penalty? Seems like a clear coding oversight. |

Yeah. Maybe it's checking the yardage gained on the play instead of yards to go, and Jim coded it for "if yardsgained >9 take play, else take penalty," not taking into account instances where the play started with more than 10 yards to go for a first down.
