Smile OOTP Weekend Sale, Save 50% +++ iOOTP announced +++ OOTP Final Patch Released

Hey guys,

we have some great OOTP-related news to share:
OOTP Newsletter - OOTP 11 weekend special, 50% off - save $20! iOOTP announced! OOTP 11 final update released!

We have just lowered the price for OOTP 11 to just $19.99, this special offer lasts through Sunday, August 29th! So if you haven't purchased OOTP 11 yet (or your online league hasn't updated), this is the perfect time.

Further, we have announced the development of iOOTP, coming Spring 2011 for iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad. We've hired a full time programmer who is already at work, converting OOTP into a great baseball simulation game for the mentioned Apple devices.

Further, the final OOTP 11 patch, version 11.2.23 has just been released. You can find the download links in the newsletter

All the best and thanks for listening!
Markus

Great news Markus - this version of OOTP is really fantastic, and at half price you can't beat it. Plus I can't wait for the iPad version!

Will iOOTP be compatable with OOTP? So league managers can export from their phones, etc? And as a commish, will i be able to run a league from an iPad?

No, iOOTP is not compatible with OOTP. iOOTP is smaller so it is able to run on the iphone and thus not the same game as OOTP is.

I've been busy with work for the past few months so not fully in the loop, but I think this is the correct answer at least.

$19.99, or just under €17. I assume you get charged in dollars, so you might get stung with currency conversion fees.

I love that old looking one. If I remember right, looks like a mid-60s, mid-70s topps style?

I've been using this one in our Online league, it looks like the upper deck cards when I was in school

Oh, and it looks like I was a week too early picking it up, but I picked up the CD version on an impulse buy at Best Buy. I have to say, I am liking the game so far. First time getting OOTP in a couple releases and I am liking what I see so far.

A simple fact of life is that the Droid based phones aren't amazingly viable as a platform for selling software on at present - I've investigated it for FMHi and the piracy rates are incredible on them due to Googles current policies.

This is for FMHi which is a fairly mainstream product (in Europe) compared to OOTP which is (at present) still a niche game.

Add to this the fact that Droid uses Java as its language for development (you can integrate C++ into it but its not particularly efficient from what I hear) and the fact that it has a very fragmented handset range .... thus it'd be a LOT more work for Markus to consider the Droid.

I'm sure he will in due course if the iPhone game is a success, but for an initial platform I think he's made the right choice imho.

Fantastic to hear that - had wondered what had happened to the CD based release as I haven't seen it around here

An unwise assumption. Apparently you're new to OOTP. In the past the dollar price was also the euro price (meaning you, like me, even though we're not in the euro zone, would pay the equivalent of 19 euro).

Personally I don't do much modding at all - in the game if you go to the Add-ons page it will bring in the main mod pages and mods automatically and you can choose which to use. The All-in-one MLB quickstart thing (forget it's official name) is definitely worth it, and there's a great historical photo pack if you want to play historical games.

Is it worth the upgrade from OOTP X? I haven't played it for a while, so I'm not convinced if I would play this version.

Yes, it's worth it. Especially at this price. It's the best version of the game ever released and that's not hyperbole, it's seriously the version I've managed the most gameplay out of since 6.5 and it's light years ahead of where we were in those days and an upgrade over 10.

I dropped $20.00. Hopefully it will suck me in like 5 and 6. I would love to join a baseball league again and actually enjoy it...and make trades... haven't done that in almost 4 years.

Any idea why I would have received a trade offer on 8/11 if the trade deadline is 7/31?

Nice!

The one I use is a 1973 Topps.

The All in one is a must for MLB style playing.

I also use the Topps 1973 baseball card template and there is a rating bars mod that scales the colors instead of just one solid color.

Oh, and there is a sound mod for when I play a game that gets rid of the sound going up really high at times.

I bought for the first time since the first SI version (whatever came after 6.5).

I have played through two seasons with the Pirates and have found it to be a pretty good combination of fun, challenging, and pretty solid with statistics. I did have to turn the injuries way, way down because I like to quick sim and there were just way too many significant (longer than DTD or a week) injuries that were slowing things down. It still feels just a bit too complex/laborsome for me, but I figure some of that is the learning curve and that I can customize things after I figure them out a little better.

I really like the draft element now. I can see how that could be a lot of fun for online leagues (w/ the way that some human owners mismanage money, they could really have to settle for lesser but signable picks). With the free agent compensation, even though I haven't had a Type A or B player yet since I'm using the Pirates, I can see how that would be a good/fun element for online leagues, too (There is now some incentive to hold on to or aquire useful players rather than just prospect dump or sell to the highest bidder).

All in all, I like the progress quite a bit.

One minor suggesting.

Since I prefer GMing to micromanaging (I build the roster and let the manager set the lineups and rotation/staffs), I enjoy building my coaching staff. I would like to see a coaching history or resume for all the personnel, rather than just the manager.

For example, if you are grooming a bench coach to become manager, it would be nice to know his experience/pedigree. Or, if you have a guy like Bobby Cox, who has been a coach, GM, and manager, that would be nice to see.

I'd love to see the same thing Swaggs - I enjoy reading the managerial histories but there is a big gap when a guy may have been a pitching coach for 10 years which went unrecorded before he became a manager.

The Southern League is AA.
