PROPOSED RULE CHANGE

I was going to make it a change this week, but I would like to hear from you and see what you think.

All picks need to made by 11:59 CST on Friday. I will send out a reminder by Thursday evening to those who have not made their picks.

Keep in mind that failure to get your pick in will result in elimination.

I hate the rule change. As long as the pick is made an hour before the game, it should be good. But I'm a participant, I don't make the rules.

Personally, I don't like it either, but I felt it was necessary because it will actually give participants the opportunity to get a full range of games instead of having to pick the MNF game because there were no other options.

But that's their call for being late. The person who who picks on Tuesday or Wednesday has a full slate of games to pick from. If you wait until Monday, you have one and have to pick it if you want to stay in the competition. The person who waits only penalizes themselves, not the collective group.

I can see your point. I guess I can cancel the rule change, but I'm expecting someone to miss a pick soon and pitch a fit when I won't let him stay in the game.

Edit: I'm going to put it to a vote. If you like it or not, let me know.

That would be different duck, then I'd be defending you. The rules clearly state you have to make a pick each week. Picking from 50 or 60 games is easier than picking from one. You choose to wait til Monday to pick, it's all on that individual. They forget on Monday, buh bye. They knew the rules, they didn't live by em. Their loss.

Agree with the group on the rule change, especially if the rationale is to prevent someone from throwing a fit because they missed a week. As of now if you screw up and forget during the weekend you can still throw something out there on Monday. Creating an earlier artificial deadline probably would lead to people missing it.

I was tempted to pick Oregon just so I could say my lock was getting 35 1/2 points @ a BCS team, but I'll settle on Oklahoma St -24 @ Louisiana-Lafayette. I'm not sold on their defense, but I don't see any way they don't put up at least 40 on ULL. Plus it'll give me an incentive to care if I end up watching it in the background on Friday night.

Oklahoma State probably should cover that spread, but this will be their first road game, stuck in between Big 12 games. It's very possible there will be a letdown there. I'm going to stay away from that one when betting.

And I agree that the rule change has no purpose. If I'd have missed the Monday night game it would have been my own fault and I'd have nobody to blame, if I miss an artificial deadline on Friday that doesn't need to be there now I'm a little pissed. It also means that people can't play the lines quite as much (there is an art to waiting to the last minute if you think a particular line is going to move)

I do see the potential there, but I didn't see any great one this week... other two I considered were Oregon -35.5 @ Washington State and Stanford -9.5 vs. USC - the first is just so high for a conference road game and the second such a weird change of events from past years. Plus who knows what Lane Kiffin and Jim Harbaugh will try to pull out vs. each other - if I could bet on one of the two doing something asshattish enough to make minor national news I'd do so, but alas Duckman isn't accepting prop bets.

I'm not a participant in this, but I think you guys should allow for whatever is necessary that will result in someone whining about being eliminated for failing to make a pick in a game that a member is running out of the goodness of their heart with no entry fee and no prize.

It always ends up happening and that's exactly why I want to be here when it does.

Thought hard on UW but will go with:

Boise St. -38.5 over Toledo

And on the rule, I don't see any point. Is there really anyone who is a big enough asshat to complain after it's been made this clear you can't miss a week?

See what happens when you try to make a unnecessary rule change.... you force TroyF to make a piss poor selection in Kst.

Sure they may cover the spread, but its clearly not his best effort.

I really thought Nebraska was slightly overrated. (not a ton, but enough to make this close)

I'm wrong on a bunch of levels. They aint covering the spread in this one. It's a loss and a thrashing. I really liked a couple of NFL games this week, but I honestly thought this was a fairly obvious game. Turns out I was right. . .

Rule change seems pointless, and I especially don't like it as I know the NFL better and pick NFL games almost exclusively. The guys picking college games can wait til the night before while if you are looking NFL you're picking 2 days early w/ more time for things to change.

I think the rule change is unnecessary and silly. I often don't even look at the lines until Saturday morning. If the deadline still stands and I am out so be it.
