NBA Fantasy League - Season Underway!

Anyone want to start a Yahoo NBA fantasy league? Did FOFC do one last year?

Here's a league that Lathum started last year. Lathum, you can import all the settings to a new league this year if you like. It would be an easy way to start a league for this season.

Yahoo Fantasy Basketball - Front Office Football Central

Thanks, Lathum. I just signed up. I do see that this is a daily league. I'd prefer weekly. That's what we made the FOFC hockey league this year. Anyone else have a preference as to daily or weekly league?

I mentioned the league to a buddy of mine and he wants to join so I gave him the league info since we're short on players. Hope that's ok.

I should hopefully be home in time for the draft...I think. I'm flying in back from Philly and I think my flight lands at like 9:30. So assuming it's not late, I should be okay I think.

Oops I just realized I had the wrong time in the thread title. The draft is at 8:45 PM Eastern not 10:45 PM.

Zarg. I'm definitely not going to be home for that then. I could still give it a go and let the computer auto-draft for me, but i'm not sure how fun that'll be, given that there's basically no chance i'll go in ahead of time and set up a preference list. Hmm.

I have not followed the NBA seriously since about 1992 I think.

But, if you guys need an extra to even out the league, or get you to an acceptable # of players, I will join. I'll hold off until maybe Tues/Weds to sign up, someone just keep me posted please.

yeah - i'll be in with a computer-drafted team just to give the league a decent # of players...but i have no expectation of being any good.

I'm not a big NBA guy either but I thought a fantasy league might help me start following the league again. Go ahead and join now.

Guys, feel free to invite friends to the league. We need more players!

I finally followed through using Lathum's return invite, so I am in there. That brings us to 9, so we need at least one more. Not sure if anyone else was in it last year and hasn't re-joined yet.

Iīll join, your at fault if i start sleeping off at work the next day ... Or during the draft ...

Been years since i played a yahoo league and that was rotisserie not head-to-head. Basically this will mean iīll have to track how many games some players have in a certain week, right ? How much movement/strategizing is there generally in that aspect ?

How do waivers work exactly ?

If roster change day is monday, i can still do it Sunday right ?

How does the head-to-head work ? Total or positional or by category ? And is it 1 week = 1 matchup ?

joined regardless, but figured iīd get the stupid questions out of the way

Given that we'll have at least 12 teams (but can accommodate up to 20) should we expand the rosters a little bit?

Okay, I have a question.

The last time I played fantasy NBA, was Tim Duncan's rookie year. I was lucky enough to draft him and I snagged David Robinson very late and ended up winning the league because of these 2. This was a Roto league though.

So, this one is head to head, weekly, right? How do lineups work? Is there a game limit per position like there is in roto? How often can I change my lineup? Do those lineup changes take effect the same day, weekly?

Thanks.

Not being overly familiar with the total pool of NBA talent, if we get too much above 14 teams, won't teams be pretty thin? I mean, yes, it's the same across the board for everyone, but...

Also, with that many teams, and adding spots, the draft might drag on awhile.

This is a weekly league so you set your lineup on Sunday (or any day) for the following Monday to Sunday week. You can change your lineup as often as you like in order to set your lineup for the following week. You can only add four new players per week, though. You can see this information and more on the League Settings page.

How does the scoring work? Do we get a point for each category won in the H2H matchup, most points wins the matchup?

Or is it points based where you earn a certain number of points per rebound, steal, etc?

Option 1. You win categories, that is your record for the week. So best option, is 9-0-0, worst 0-9-0.

Hey guys, I changed the max teams to 14 so that we are at capacity. For those of you who haven't done a Yahoo league, if there is an odd number of teams in a head to head league they don't let you draft. I changed it to prevent a last minute sign up.

If someone still wants in they will need to find a second person and I will open it up.

Also, with 14 teams what does everyone think about the positions? I was thinking mostly of the fact there are 2 centers. I was thinking of changing it to one.

Thoughts?

I would agree changing to 1 starting C, and maybe make one of the flex positions F/C (if that is possible, not sure).

Otherwise, people will be holding 3rd string Cs on their bench, just to have an extra C in case of injury, who will play 3 mins a game.

I changed it to one center. There is no flex option so I just left it the way it is. I don't think the draft should be so long that we are drafting the Darkos of the world.

On a serious note, yahoo is so lenient with the Center label i donīt see the issue, almost every Power forward can be slotted in at Center.
Zach Randolph is a center, Kevin Love, Troy Murphy, Blatche, Boozer, Lamarcus Aldridge is eligible at Center even.
Heck, Matt Bonner is a Center acording to yahoo. Not that we should go so deep that Matt Bonner is a viable option, iīm just making a point here

Of the default Top 100 thereīs 25 players eligible to play at the C spot, thatīs 25% and ássuming the 2 utility roles are used on a Guard and a Forward it would be 4 guards, 4 forwards and 2 Centers (Centers make up only 20%)

I donīt see how drafting the darkoīs of the world is better than drafting the earl watsonīs or Rasual Butlerīs of the world

I care much more about 2nd string big men than 2nd string guards for some reason, so i vote to keep 2 Cs ...

Question : During the draft, can you switch between the customized player rankings and the default rankings ? Iīd like to just list players for myself where i think they will perform better than anticipated (maybe like 20 players) and not want to list 200 guys and move those 20 up in the list.

My last h2h fantasy basketball league was around 1998 and it was quite easy to win - I was the only person in the league who just started the guys who played the most games in any given week. There could be quite a disparity week-to-week. That's my only reservation about this league's setup. (though I'm in regardless).

i donīt suppose you can make a limit like "only 3 best games count" or sth ?

Or making it go by per game averages ?
