So, new PC issue that started today.

First I noticed I couldn't open any MS Office files. Mainly Word and Excel, but also tried to startup PowerPoint just to try, same issue.

In some cases, the program would at least open, but after about 2 seconds tell me there is an error and force a shutdown.

So, after awhile tried a few other things...looks like any loaded programs wil not open. I get the same error with FOF and a few other games.

Running AVG, as of last run had no threats, but re-running again.

Appears there are no issues with preloaded software-- any games, MS Works, all open fine.

PC is about 4 years old, running Vista.

Any thoughts?

Sounds like windows may be corrupted. If you're running Vista a reinstall is pretty painless.

You could try just running the windows repair tool off the disk, but if your issues are that bad I'd just do a full reinstall.

Try using system restore and go back a few days or so. That should fix any registry/dll issues.
