PureSim Baseball 4 - 3/22 Release

We're on schedule for a Tuesday release. One last minute, surprise feature will be a "use 2011 projected MLB Rosters" option when creating an association. We are doing our best job possible to project the opening day rosters and 55-60 players and prospects total!

Note, as of 3/22 the game goes up $5 to $29.95, so if you buy the beta version before then, you'll only pay $24.95. Just a friendly tip for all my FOFC friends

We don't have the 2011 rosters in the beta yet, but everything else is code complete and ready for release.

You can download the latest release candidate build here

Purchase for $24.95 here

One other announcement I'd like to make is that I am leaving my "real" job and pursuing doing my own thing full time as a startup. Exciting times ahead My first day being a self-employed man will be 4/16. I am scared and nervous, but didn't want to be 80 years old wondering "what if?" So now, out of pity, you should probably buy the game, just so I can feed the family

Thanks for allowing the shameless plug.

Shaun

Great to hear Shawn. I unfortunately am having issues with my current laptop with XP and updating to service pack 3 so my purchase will have to wait until I upgrade to a new one.

I realize I may not be an impartial observer but IMO the lack of opening day rosters would have been the only knock on this game - now, with the opening day rosters, the rich and accurate history, the most accurate sim engine on the market and just the right amount of "stuff" in the game to be plenty deep but not overwhelming...PureSim has it all and if you've never tried PureSim then you NEED to try it now.

I can vouch being part of the beta, this is a VERY solid game in terms of historical accuracy, in game and free agent signing AI and most of all trade AI, which can be adjusted with a slider. It doesn't have the bells and whistles, but the foundation is tremendous for those that like to focus more on the game and the challenge of building a winner.

And congrats Shaun on the new business venture!

Correct, it's real strength is the ingame play and the computer AI when dealing with trades, FA's etc.

Shaun - Purchased today to support you. I have tried most of your demo's over the last few years but never have been much on baseball gaming. Went with OOTP last year for my first full release baseball sim in about 7-8 years. I appreciate your efforts on PS4. I will dig in and let you know more impressions as I get deeper into the game. I appreciate that you included the 2011 roster option.

It's official - the game has been released and Shaun deserves a ton of credit for the effort here. Over 230 new features and tweaks, 2011 projected rosters, statistical accuracy that is unmatched by any other game, the amazing "Tru-Life Transactions" that can recreate the transactions exactly as they happened from 1920 on and just so much more. There's even a huge manual with the game that can walk you through basically every screen. It's just an awesome product and you're never going to find a better value for under $30.

Yeah just grab the full version - I think all of Shaun's beta updates worked the same way too if I am not mistaken.

Cool.

I'll take 50 to 1 odds that Werth doesn't get 6.8 WAR this year.

I was actually very impressed with how close the overall stats were.

The two most glaring differences were batting average was abound 5-6 percentage points lower than RL 2010 stats which may be the reason ERA and runs per game were down. Also SB% is high. The stolen bases were right on but the caught stealing in Puresim was 300 less.

Triples were a bit low as well but overall it was very good and even better considering these rosters were a last minute addition.

The first year of the association was 2011, so the game views all players as rookies the year you start. Probably something Shaun can fix.

I see Padresfan is in this thread right now so I wanted to thank him for the work he has done with this.

Its great that the game comes with a ballpark downloader so you just download that mod and you can play in all the different parks throughout history.

The mods that come easy to download with this game are a huge addition. Facepacks, Ballparks, and Logos.

does it have a facegen-like feature for fictional players?

Not that I could find.

If its not already an option we could maybe convince him to assign random fictional pics to fictional players. There are enough fictional pic folders available for download that could be added easy enough.

Thanks for the kind words jbergey! The ballpark pack in particular was a PITA, so I'm glad it's going to get some use and enjoyment.

As for fictional photos, I have some advice. Shaun includes a location in your Puresim 4 directory for fictional photos: C:\Wolverine Studios\PureSim Baseball 4\mods\faces\Generic. Dump whatever photos you want in there and PureSim will randomly assign them.

I have a number of downloads on my site for fictional photos, including a couple I created with OOTP. They are not configured to install directly into the right location like my other installers, but it takes just a few seconds to copy the files to the right location. Look for "Generic Facepack for PureSim 2" for the latest one I did. Works fine with PS4.

The only thing (I think) holding Shaun back from incorporating facegen functionality into his game is the cost. If I'm not mistaken, it's a little over 5 figures for the license, so it's a hefty investment. I would LOVE to see it though...

This is correct - we would love to use a product like facegen in the programs and if we ever get to the point where we are selling anywhere near the copies that some of the bigger guys do we would definitely consider it. So...if you'd like to see that then buy the game and get 10 friends to do it too

Sorry for the qualified answer, but it depends. Background images - yes. Scoreboard mods - I think so. XML Files - no idea... I guess maybe I should delete the files for older versions at some point...

I've bought every version and never really got into it though. I've always been an OOTP fictional universe type guy.

But I bought this last night and have started a historical replay with the 1982 Brewers and haven't been able to stop playing.

Shaun,

Could you please tweak the stolen base success rate for the first patch? Instead of 75-80 percent success rate get it closer to 70 percent. Makes it easy to gain an advantage on against the computer knowing how high of success the stolen bases are.

Thanks, if anything, folks should check it out to hear new world records with an interview subject answering "ummm" and "do you know what I mean?" and rambling off topic. When I make the big time, I think I will need to hire a PR coach.

It was fun though.

Big news day for PureSim 4 I guess. Bill Abner posted his thoughts on the game as well. Hopefully you guys will take at least the demo for a spin because Shaun has really done some great things with this release - and he's got a big patch/update planned for this week as well so watch out for that.

Version 1.05 now available from the site - here's the release notes

PureSim 4 v1.05 Official Patch #1 (4/13/2011)

* New! - Final 2011 Template Available - Tons of updates to the 2011 Opening Day Roster, free agents, player moves, etc. (Last updated 4/2/2011).
* New - Multi-Select to promote/demote players between the minor league levels using the Mouse/Ctrl-Key. Works only for minor league levels by design at the moment. Selecting more than 1 player and attempting to promote to majors will only promote the last selected player until further notice.
* New - New Retirement addin. All retired players sorted alphabetically by Last name.
* New - "How Acquired" added to main page of Player Card.
* Tweak - Leaderboard next to Standings when simming now alternates between league leaders and overall association leaders (ie., AL & NL, Association).
* Tweak - Final tweaks to Fictional stats engine.
* Tweak - Proper Silver Slugger and Gold Glove image now displayed on PSPN Awards issue at end of season.
* Tweak - Added Team Name after each player in Top Performers section on PSPN Awards issue at end of season.
* Tweak - Injured players *may not* heal on days they played in a game. Injured players who did not play on a given day will heal.
* Tweak - Catchers fatigue recovery increased.
* Tweak - SB attempts in later innings, batting team trailing, and less than 2 outs improved.
* Tweak - Eligible to come off DL notifications added for human managed teams. Pop-up box will appear if you have AutoPlay option turned on. Otherwise, only notification you will receive is on home page. If you are simming, you will receive no notification and the player will be automatically removed.
* Tweak - Runners are far less likely to try to tag-up from 2nd with 0 outs, ball is hit shallow/Medium, and the runner does not represent tying run.
* Tweak - Reduced amount of overly high/slow pop fly animations.
* Tweak - Dynasty Report|Rosters now includes DL Info and Free Agent Pool.
* Tweak - Transaction mode and initial draft - players who began season as a FA in real life will be released to free agent pool and signed on date they did in real life.
* Tweak - MLB Rookie of the Year Eligibility requirements implemented for associations playing 154 or more games per season.
* Tweak - If your Assn is a historical assn created prior to 1973, your assn will automatically set the DH flag to ON for the American League once it reaches 1973 and thereafter. If your historical assn was created after 1972 then your DH setting will remain the same as you set it when you created the assn.
* Tweak - Commissioner Function|Team Drop-Down Box - has been disabled if player is retired.
* Tweak - Now that the defaults are agreed to be excellent, implemented auto-importing/changing team colors each season based on real life has been re-implemented.
* Tweak - Improved player statistical variances for fictional associations. In some smaller configurations there was a little too much "bunching" of player stats for certain categories such as HR's
* Tweak - Minor league pitchers performance tweaked up a bit. In general Minor League pitcher stats were a little too poor.
* Tweak - Reduced chances of AI pinch-running for a trailing runner when his run is not the go-ahead or tying run.
* Tweak - Qualifier for batting avg on HTML Dynasty Report changed from AB to PA in formula.
* Fix - Fixed - Schedule for 16 teams, 2 leagues, 2 divisions for fictional assn's had an incorrect date for 1 game resulting in a double-header between wrong teams.
* Fix - Streaks Addin was producing a Type Mismatch error.
* Fix - Very low/zero HR anomaly in domed stadiums at altitudes of less than 182 ft.
* Fix - Very rare (1 reported case) issue where an individual pitcher would have extremely poor performance, far beyond any acceptable outlier range.
* Fix - Corrected the text description of IP/Hits in the Saberstats Reports.
* Fix - Transaction mode - End of season transactions were being processed before End of Season Awards were handed out. This could cause players to appear on the wrong teams when viewing PSPN Awards screen at end of season.
* Fix - Due Up screen was showing 9th batting slot as a Pitcher after a double switch was made.
* Fix - Replacing the fielder on Lineup Card during a Double Switch will now result in that fielders name being properly scratched out.
* Fix - World Series Losers on the Seasons page of the Browsable Almanac are no longer shown in bold face (only that seasons Winners are now bolded).
* Fix - Once you close your pre-game lineup screen, its the same as "Handing your lineup card to the homeplate umpire" and you cannot freely exchange a bench player with a lineup player. Doing so will properly result in the lineup player being unable to re-enter the game and he will appear as having been subbed for in the boxscore..
* Fix - Fictional 24Team, 2Leagues, 4Div assn configuration will use a MLB-type schedule from 1969-1976.
* Fix -Team Roster Report now shows correct Home Region for real players.
* Fix - Problem in ballpark editor that would lead to a crash when editing 1 specific park in each assn file. For example, when using 2011 rosters, a crash would be observed whrn trying to edit ball flight locations for U.S. Cellular Field.
* Fix - Multiple AI robustness improvements to roster assignment AI. In some very rare cases with players on the DL and full roster rquirements ON, the AI could lock up.
* Fix - Notification of No-Hitters fixed and added No-Hitters to notables tab on player card.
* Fix - Eliminated the Federal League from 1914 & 1915 Historical assn configuration.
* Fix - BlueChips Addin would under rare circumstances produce a Division-By-Zero error when attempting to calculate K/BB ratio.
* Fix - Rare lockup in certain roster combinations with 1920 (Introduced in the 1.02 beta)
* Fix - Transaction mode and initial draft - rare occurrences of players being released then re-signed by same team.

Looks great. Thanks

Any tweak to the SB percentage as of yet that I mentioned earlier in this thread? Too easy to take advantage of the computer knowing that SB success rate is around 80 percent.

I noticed this game is 50% over the weekend but haven't seen much posted about this in over a month and half. How is it nowadays? Worth the $15? Or just hold out until OOTP is finally released?
