Building a better Fantasy Baseball League - DRAFT DATE Voting

Majority rules, so BE FLEXIBLE.

VOTE FOR AS MANY AS YOU CAN BE AVAILABLE FOR

I'm available all weekend, so I'm voting for all 6.

I voted all day Sunday. I forgot to vote for Saturday evening (which would work) so, give that a +1.

What is "late evening"?

That will impact my voting.

I figure

afternoon = 1 to 4 PM
early evening = 5 to 7 PM
late evening = 8 to 10 PM

meaning we'll start the draft at that time and it will run about 2 hours.

I don't think starting it at 10PM on Sunday is feasible, so maybe 9PM at the latest - that way if you have to bail, you'll get all your good picks in and the rest will be the roster fillers.

Ya, just retro everyting. A few days of stats shouldn't skew the overall picture.

Oh, I misread. I only picked one, the Sunday early evening, because that is the best time for me. I can do any Sunday time.

If I am assuming those suggested times are EST, then my availability for Saturday depends on my new work schedule. I am supposed to switch to Friday night (does not matter, of course) and Saturday day, instead of Saturday night. So if I get my schedule, I should, I would not be available for the first two Saturday, and the last one is iffy if I get a long Saturday shift. If I get my old schedule and those are EST times, I could only do the afternoon one.

So basically, I can't do it on Saturday either way, for the most part.

Based on that Sunday afternoon should have 9 votes and Sunday late evening 8 votes. So at this point Sunday afternoon would be the choice.

I added Sunday afternoon and Evening. My only caveat with Sunday afternoon is afternoon Pacific time.

Also, I say we keep the first week of stats.

Just to be clear on the time... Sunday afternoon East Coast or West Coast? East Coast is morning on the West Coast.

I'm in Virginia, so my idea of Sunday afternoon would be to start the draft between 1PM and 4PM EDT.

I didn't see much input as to the keeper issue, so here's is what we're rolling with:

Every team will be required to keep 6 players - no more, no less. The team will lose a draft pick equal to one round higher than where that payer was drafted. As such (1) No team can protect a first round draft pick and (2) if a team acquires more than one player selected in the same round and choose to keep more than one, next higher round picks are lost.

So if you keep a 3rd rounder, you lose your 2d round pick. if you keep 2 3rd round picks, you lose your 2nd round and 1st round pick. You cannot keep 3 third round picks.

Wow. I thought I was making a nice strategical move by grabbing the best 2 3rd basemen with my first 2 picks. Having them both on the DL most of the year kinda submarines that strategy, huh?

Yeah, injuries are very tough in this league due to the lack of depth. I have 7 players on my DL right now

I thought about bumping my thread just to bitch but I guess i'll do it here. Freese, Bourgouis, Holiday, Davis, De La Rosa. Seriously? Why do the gods hate me so?

I am gonna have to put up some serious second half power numbers to climb back into this thing.

I appreciate your guys laying down for most of May, and letting me catch up. Now if only I hadn't blown half of my remaining FA budget on Burrell, I'd have a better outlook on the rest of the season. I'm hoping theIsotopes just don't take another month off.

I like the number of teams we have in the league, but the lack of depth makes me wonder if we should reduce the roster size a little bit.

Pitching isn't too bad, but I could see getting ride of 1 OF spots along with 1 utility spot. Or getting ride of the 1b/3b spot and the 2b/ss spot and simply go with 4 OF's and three utilities.

I like the sound of 4 OF and three utilities. That is an overall reduction of two spots while retaining some flexibility.

I'll guess that the only danger of flexibility in one of these leagues is that someone can really go lopsided at one of the power positions, but with our depth issues I'll bet that won't be a problem.

The weird thing is though is that the power positions dont have more depth. I know I've struggled to find production out of my 3b and 1B / 3B more so than my middle infielder spots. Heck I've started two catchers as my utility players most of the year,

Doh!
As I predicted, I'm a bottom feeder, but others have already said what I think is the biggest problem--no depth anywhere, really (maybe pitching, haven't looked for pitchers). So when a player gets hurt, there's nobody to fill the slot.

Ah oh well. I still enjoy following the NL more than I used to.

I mean there's some players to be had on waivers who get temp at bats, but you definitely have to pay close attention. I bid all my remaining FA budget on Rizzo ($71) which was an easy decision as he is talented and should at the very least get regular at bats for the rest of the season. Well, until he goes on the DL

YO!

We need to collect money to pay out to the winners!

I believe, and let me check to make sure.....

..yep. NO ONE paid.

We all voted on $40 per team, so that means we have a prize pool of $480 split as such:

1st place = 50% = $240 to Martins Maulers
2nd place = 30% = $144 to the Fukushima Isotopes
3rd place = 20% = $96 to the Fat Bastards

Since no money was collected beforehand, we can do this one of 2 ways:

(1) I collect all the money then re-distribute it, or
(2) Non-winning teams send funds to the winners.

Let me know what you want to do - the winners preference will take priority.

Dola,

I'll post a thread later in the year about rules changes and other housekeeping. For one, we need to shrink the rosters considerably to allow for more player movement (or should I say *some* player movement)

I'm down with either. Been wanting to send my $$ for awhile.

I guess shrinking rosters (significantly) will help, but even then, you're going to run into issues at normal positions. I kinda think it'd be better with 10 teams.

Honestly, I don't know why money wasn't collected at the beginning of the season. A few of us at least posted about it and I know I sent a message myself.

I thought it was $50? And I'm not saying this because I won but 50-30-20 seems a bit off. Should be more around 80-20.
