New computer blue screens
This is as good a place as any to ask.
I've been getting multiple blue screens running windows 7 pro 64. It happens pretty much at random. This is a brand new computer, Dell. I ran memtest overnight saturday for about 9 hours w/o an error, so I'm pretty much stumped. I've attached the most recent dmp and xml files if that helps. Specs: Core 2 Quad 8200 4 gb ddr2 ram Radeon 5450 Audigy 2 ZS Platinum 500 gb hd (Western Digital) 320 gb hd (main, Western Digital) ASUS blu-ray drive Toshiba DVD-RW AirLink Wireless N The errors happened before and after a re-install of windows. They happened before and after replacing the integrated graphics. The old error was I believe win32k.sys. The most recent I've seen is the dxgmms1.sys error. 99% sure all drivers are as up to date as I could find. Thanks for any help. edit notes: I went 4 days without it shutting down during the week, and during that time it was doing video encoding for 4-5 hours a day. It has crashed 21 times (per the dmp files) since the 25th. Mainly while doing nothing, or while transferring files from my old computer via ethernet (which is frustrating, since the old computer was PATA, and this computer has no PATA ports). The last time I had issues like this (random crashes on a home built computer) it ended up being the CPU. Ironically, it's the last component I replaced. I tried new memory, a new hard drive, a new motherboard, and then finally broke down and bought a cheap CPU just to give it a try. It worked. The funny thing was, I ran every CPU test I could find overnight and for days at a time and the thing never failed. Boot into Windows, though, and it would fail/freeze at random intervals. For the longest time, I thought it was the RAID driver, but it turns out I spewed bile at nVidia for weeks with no justification...

Yeah, sorry.. if I get a brand new machine and it BSODs early on, I'm taking them up on the offer for a new computer.

Agreed. I went through components because my manufacturer wasn't offering a free replacement system. ![]()

Sounds like bad ram or bad cpu to me. Either way, I would take Dell up on their offer for a replacement asap.

If I had to choose between constant blue screens or rolling the dice with a refurb, I would roll the dice.
