Familiars
I am trying to understand familiars and very familiars.
Here is what I believe. A- It is effected by the number of runs vs short passes vs long. B -It seems to be effected by whether all your calls are the same length: like all short passes are screens. C - It is effected by running the ball in various directions. D - It"s effected by the number of calls from a particular formation. ( I am not sure whether just 2 TE - Pro - single back - are involved or whether it breaks down to I 2TE - I strong also.) E - I believe down and distance are not a factor. Could you guys clarify these different possibilities for me? Thank you, Merry |

Losing your familiar can cause a system shock.

I was going to post a thread about this, but instead I found this one.
Merry, I agree with you that down & distance aren't a factor. That just wouldn't make much sense. I've always assumed it was mainly about formations. Lately, I'm thinking the opposite: it's mainly about run direction balance and pass distance balance. Not sure about this. However, in general, in this version of the game, you appear to be rewarded for balance in every area. Or, rather, penalized for imbalance pretty harshly. |

I believe it's based off run and pass out of a certain formation. I've been able to run 3 and 4 formation game plans without significant familiar messages.
You can test this by setting up a game plan to be like 100% in one formation. Then set up the play calling to be 100% short pass. Then 100% run, then 50/50.

And, of course, a good measure of dice rolls come into play. One of my opponents had a familiar on the 3rd play of the game, but none thereafter.

I would say down and distance are a factor.
If you run on 3-1 all the time you will get them. I had a very familiar once on my very first drive of the game 3rd play on offense ran on 3 &1. I assume that the DC guessed right so I got the message. I was my first run of the game so no formation, down and distance info for that game was generated yet.
