IMAP question (Comcast/Gmail)

I have a Comcast email which I prefer to use. Unless I'm mistaken, it doesn't seem like I can use IMAP with Comcast. Hence, I am forwarding my Comcast emails to my gmail account so that I can use Outlook and IMAP.

My question is, can I create a "send from only" account using my Comcast email?

I would like to reply to my emails using the Comcast account...they are coming in forwarded from the Gmail account in Outlook.

Is there a better way? I would just use my gmail account but it's nowhere near as easy as my Comcast email which I've been using for YEARS.

You are right that Comcast doesn't support IMAP. You should be able to designate in Outlook what email address you use to reply. Gmail is pretty smart about letting you forward tons of accounts to it and allowing you to navigate those email addresses, so in a funny way...it'd be easier for you to use gmail to reply to Comcast account than how you're doing it. I just realize that defeats the purpose of your question.

Regardless, if I "add" my Comcast email back to Outlook it will be as POP3 and then I'll be getting the original email, plus the forwarded one I want.

I am hoping there is a way to JUST use Comcast as my "reply" or "outgoing" account and NOT as incoming. Outlook doesn't let me click accept unless I have incoming info listed.

There has to be a way!

Yeah, what DC said. You can specify your reply to address is your comcast account, that has nothing to do with your GMail configuration and you do not have to add Comcast back in. Just set the reply to address as [email protected] within your GMail configuration. Granted I haven't configured POP in Outlook for a long time now, so it may have changed.

That said, it may cause your emails to be flagged as spam by some organizations.

So POP is only for incoming, SMTP is outgoing. You can try to specify the comcast server for SMTP and GMail for POP. You may have to specify login information for SMTP, which by default(I think) is disabled.

Don't know if it will work, a bit to pre-occupied right now to put thought into it.

Edit: Err change POP above to IMAP, think it will work the same.

Well, it appears I have IMAP working nicely. My last question is this:

How do I have emails in the inbox, for which I click on delete, go to the "Trash" folder instead of just being purged? I'm talking inside of Outlook 2003 (work) and 2007 (home).

After that, I'll be trying to see if I can forward text messages from 8am-330pm as I don't get reception at work!
